During the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire held dominion over a sector of space referred to as the Nythlide Array. In the year 5 ABY, a battle group of the New Republic, under the command of General Hera Syndulla, engaged in combat with the Imperial blockades of Nythlide, ultimately achieving a breakthrough after a week-long conflict. Following the successful breach of these blockades, Syndulla departed the Nythlide Array, delegating the support of the local militia against the remaining Imperial forces to two carriers led by Major Jaun until their mission was complete.

The Galactic Empire exerted its control over the region of space known as the Nythlide Array, or simply Nythlide, during the Galactic Civil War. In the period of eleven months following the Battle of Endor which took place in 4 ABY, the New Republic either captured or was ceded vast portions of Imperial territory. However, Nythlide persisted as one of the territories within the galaxy under the control of Imperial warlords and opportunists who had become separated from the loyalist forces of the Empire. These territories faced increasing isolation at the hands of the New Republic. In 5 ABY, a New Republic battle group commanded by General Hera Syndulla launched an assault on the Imperial blockades within the Nythlide Array, successfully breaching them after a week of intense combat.
Subsequent to the defeat of the blockades, Syndulla stationed two of her carriers in Nythlide, under the command of Major Jaun, to provide support to the local militia of Nythlide in their fight against the remaining Imperial presence. The general then proceeded onward from the territory to continue her hunt for the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. During a session among the members of the New Republic High Command, a holographic map of the galaxy was presented, illustrating the remaining Imperial control and the New Republic's advancements in eliminating the faction. The diminished Imperial presence in the Nythlide Array was depicted on the map. During this meeting, Admiral Gial Ackbar inquired of Syndulla about the security of Nythlide against the Empire, and the general provided him with an update. Following this, Jaun's carriers were initially slated to depart Nythlide upon the completion of their operations to rejoin Syndulla's forces. However, the general instead rerouted them to search for survivors among three planets that had been subjected to genocidal attacks by the 204th.
The Nythlide Array made a holographic appearance in the 2021 novel Victory's Price: An Alphabet Squadron Novel, which was authored by Alexander Freed and served as the third installment in the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy.
