Parvinoths were a type of insect lacking sentience. These creatures inhabited various planets across the Outer Rim Territories, notably the forested world of Ashas Ree. During a supply run that took place in 34 ABY, siblings named Kel and Eila became captivated by a swarm of these beautiful insects. The swarm led them directly to the entrance of the Temple of the Force on Ashas Ree.
These non-sentient insects, known as Parvinoths, could be found on different planets located in the Outer Rim Territories, specifically within the forests of Ashas Ree. Their most distinctive feature was their silvery wings, which emitted a bioluminescent glow when exposed to sunlight. Parvinoths also possessed a blue body, white eyes, yellow antennae, and four legs. Notably, their bite was not venomous.

In 34 ABY, Eila and Kel found themselves on Ashas Ree, visiting with other residents of the Colossus, the supertanker fuel depot. While at the planet's outpost, they became mesmerized by a striking parvinoth. Their admiration for the creature only grew as it joined a larger swarm. Prompted by this captivating display, the siblings chose to follow the insects as they fluttered toward a nearby Temple of the Force, with Eila even attempting to catch one in mid-air.
Kazuda Xiono, a spy and fellow resident of the Colossus, grew concerned when he realized the children had wandered off. He tracked them to the entrance of the temple, where he observed the parvinoth swarm dispersing as he approached. Despite Xiono's objections, Kel and Eila proceeded to follow a lone parvinoth into the temple. As the creature ascended toward an opening in the roof and subsequently descended toward the entrance of the Sith temple below, the group's attention was drawn to symbols etched into the ground.
At a later time, no earlier than 35 ABY, Ardis San Tekka, the Director of Creature Cartography for the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, and her safari droid, B8-T5, made a trip to Ashas Ree. While there, they studied the parvinoths. San Tekka created several sketches of the insects, while her droid gathered notes on their behavior for later analysis. After their time on Ashas Ree, San Tekka included an entry about parvinoths, complete with her illustrations, in her journal.

The first appearance of Parvinoths was in "The Relic Raiders," which was the seventh episode in the second season of the animated series Star Wars Resistance. Before the episode aired on November 17, 2019, the creatures were shown in a season trailer released on August 14 of that same year. The name "Parvinoth" was first used in the episode guide for "The Relic Raiders." Colas Gauthier, an artist at Lucasfilm Animation, created a concept illustration of the creatures, which he titled "ashButterflies," on June 15, 2018.
Parvinoths were featured in the 2024 reference book Star Wars Bestiary, Vol. 1: Creatures of the Galaxy, authored by S.T. Bende and illustrated by Iris Compiet. In 2022, when work on the book began, Bende and editor Sammy Holland put together a list of around 400 species that were considered for inclusion. From this initial list, the final 130, including the parvinoth, were chosen for the reference book. The insect's entry survived further cuts after the first draft. Compiet created her illustrations of parvinoths for the book—production began in 2023—using acrylic, gouache, and watercolor paints. The artist preferred traditional techniques to emulate the style of drawings San Tekka would have created in-universe for her journal. For every creature featured in Star Wars Bestiary, multiple sketches were made, with the Lucasfilm Story Group approving the final selections.
