Progate Temple

The Progate Temple, situated on Geonosis, served as a sanctuary. During the Clone Wars, its underground chambers were the domain of the Geonosian queen, Karina the Great, and her insectoid collective. However, the temple met its end at the hands of Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Luminara Unduli, along with a clone squad belonging to the Grand Army of the Republic, during the Second Battle of Geonosis.

History

Nestled within the deserts of Geonosis, the ancient Progate Temple provided a home for Geonosian Queen Karina the Great and her legion of undead Geonosian warriors. These warriors were resurrected by parasitic brain worms. A second battle unfolded during the Clone Wars between the Confederacy of Independent Systems (with Geonosis as a key member) and the Galactic Republic. Throughout this conflict, the Progate Temple endured extensive bombardment from the Republic's military forces.

Karina's central hive in the temple's catacombs

Following the destruction of his primary droid foundry, the Geonosian Confederate leader, Poggle the Lesser, sought refuge in Progate Temple to escape capture by the Grand Army of the Republic. Jedi Master and General Luminara Unduli and clone trooper Buzz pursued Poggle into the temple, only to be confronted by Karina's warriors upon their arrival. During the ensuing conflict, Buzz died, while Unduli was captured and taken to Karina in the catacombs below.

After a sandstorm subsided, fellow Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, accompanied by a squad of clone troopers, traveled to Progate Temple and ventured into its catacombs in search of Unduli. Upon entry, they were attacked by the undead Geonosians; nevertheless, they discovered Unduli, Poggle, and Queen Karina. After a failed negotiation for her release, Karina's refusal led them to target the temple's structural supports with blaster fire, allowing them to rescue the Mirialan Jedi Master and apprehend Poggle. They narrowly escaped just moments before the Progate Temple collapsed, entombing Karina.

The Republic established a Forward Command Center near the temple ruins, and several members of Tango Company rested nearby. However, a surviving brain worm managed to seize control of clone trooper Scythe. This controlled trooper then transported the brain worms onto the Pelta-class frigate TB-73, which triggered a skirmish involving Jedi Padawans Ahsoka Tano and Barriss Offee.
