Pryce Mining

Pryce Mining, situated on Lothal, was a mining enterprise under the ownership and management of the Pryce family. During the initial years of the Imperial Era, Governor Ryder Azadi plotted a takeover of Pryce Mining by falsely accusing Arihnda Pryce's mother, Elainye, of wrongdoing. In exchange for his assistance to Elainye, Senator Domus Renking manipulated Arihnda into transferring ownership of the company to the Galactic Empire. Subsequently, Renking negotiated an arrangement with the Empire to receive a ten percent share of the profits. After her promotion to Governor of Lothal, Pryce retaliated against Renking by closing down the mining operation.

Description

The Pryce family owned Pryce Mining, which was their family's mining business. It was located at the Pryce Mine, which was close to Lothal's Capital City. The mine contained a doonium deposit, a metal highly valued by the Imperial Navy for constructing starships.

History

Origins

Talmoor Pryce inherited and oversaw Pryce Mining, a family legacy. His wife, Elainye Pryce, handled the company's financial records, while Pomi Harchmak, a Lutrillian, served as the manager responsible for the company's inventory of heavy machinery. As Arihnda Pryce approached her mid-thirties, she began to play a more significant role in the administration of her parents' enterprise.

The takeover

Governor Ryder Azadi possessed a 30 percent stake in the company during the early Imperial Era. Seeking to gain complete control, Governor Azadi dispatched his assistant, Arik Uvis, to acquire an additional 21 percent of Pryce Mining; this would grant him a controlling interest. Arihnda declined his proposal, which led Governor Azadi to falsely accuse Arihnda's mother, Elainye, of financial malfeasance.

Arihnda sought assistance from Domus Renking, a Senator representing Lothal. Senator Renking persuaded Arihnda to falsely accuse Pomi in order to exonerate Elainye. Renking, aiming to broaden his own commercial ventures, pressured Arihnda to cede the company to the Galactic Empire, alleging it was to prevent Ryder from acquiring it. Renking secretly intended to retain ten percent of Pryce Mining's earnings for his personal gain.

As recompense, Senator Renking provided Arihnda with a position as his assistant, overseeing one of his citizen support offices on Coruscant, the galactic capital. Renking also extended offers to Talmoor and Elainye, proposing they serve as foreman and assistant administrator, respectively, on the mining planet of Batonn. Finding herself in a difficult situation, Pryce reluctantly accepted Renking's proposition but vowed to exact revenge on him.

Liquidation

Pryce rose to the position of Governor of Lothal some years later, following her assistance in exposing Nightswan's spy ring on Coruscant. This insurgent leader was a threat to the Empire. After finishing her time on Coruscant, Pryce went back to Lothal to start her new job. There, Maketh Tua, the industrial Minister, told her that Senator Renking had used up all the doonium in the Pryce family mine, which caused the income to drop by 20 percent.

Governor Pryce wanted to get back at Senator Renking for taking advantage of her on Coruscant. So, she closed the company down, saying that it was no longer making enough money. She told Minister Tua to move the workers to other mining jobs based on how long they had worked there. Renking was getting ten percent of the company's money, so he didn't want Pryce Mining to close and said he would bring in his own experts. But Pryce reminded him that she had more power than him because she was protected by important people in the Empire.

Governor Pryce knew that half of the doonium was still there, but she let Eccos, who was from the Anx and competed with Renking, take it out as a way to bother Renking.

Behind the scenes

Pryce Mining made its debut in Timothy Zahn's 2017 novel, Thrawn. This book presented a revised Canonical origin story for the character with the same name. The first visual representation of Pryce Mining appeared in Thrawn 3, a comic book adaptation of the novel that was released on April 11, 2018. Jody Houser wrote Pryce Mining, Luke Ross drew and inked it, and Nolan Woodard did the inking.
