Rentaxius VIII, also referred to as simply Rentaxius, was a celestial body within the Inner Rim Territories, located at galactic coordinates O-8 on the Standard Galactic Grid in proximity to the Perlemian Trade Route. Following the Battle of Endor by a number of weeks in 4 ABY, the Alphabet Squadron of the New Republic attempted an operation at Rentaxius VIII to seize an Imperial freighter that they had reason to believe had received supplies from the planet of Pandem Nai.
The freighter was surrounded by Alphabet Squadron, and Alphabet Leader Yrica Quell issued a demand for the vessel's capitulation, which the starship's captain initially obeyed, only to be murdered by members of his own crew. Subsequently, the Imperial craft, now under the command of a new commander, initiated an attack on the squadron. Alphabet Squadron returned fire, and the pilots Chass na Chadic and Nath Tensent succeeded in immobilizing the enemy vessel. However, Wyl Lark, piloting an RZ-1 A-wing interceptor, inadvertently damaged its oxygen generator, necessitating the evacuation of the surviving crew by Alphabet Squadron, who then towed the Imperials away in escape pods.
The first appearance of Rentaxius VIII occurred in the 2019 novel Alphabet Squadron, the initial installment of the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy penned by Alexander Freed. A shortened version of the name was subsequently featured on a map created for the reference publication Star Wars: Timelines, which was distributed as a promotional poster at Celebration Anaheim from May 26 to 29, 2022, before the book's release during Celebration Europe from April 7 to 10, 2023.
