RO-series childcare and nanny droid

The RO-series childcare and nanny droid represented a specific nanny droid design, resulting from a collaborative effort between GoCorp and Utilitech. This model's foundation was the WA-7 waitress droid's uni-wheel drive and chassis, enhanced with gently illuminated eyes, a calming vocal output, and multiple cushioned limbs to effectively care for the infant charges. These droids possessed a database containing information about the species of the child under their supervision and had the capability to administer basic medical aid during emergencies while simultaneously alerting the appropriate authorities.

During the period of the Clone Wars, Darth Sidious utilized a pair of RO-series childcare and nanny droids within his facility situated on Mustafar. These two droids underwent modifications, with much of their comforting design removed, to align with Sidious's sinister purposes. They provided care for Force-sensitive infants who had been abducted by the bounty hunter Cad Bane for Sidious's use, but they were ultimately destroyed when Jedi forces rescued the children.

Description

The RO-series childcare and nanny droid, as a type of nanny droid, employed a remarkably smooth and quiet uni-wheel drive system. This system was gyro-stabilized, enabling the unit to pivot with the precision of a credit chip. To provide comfort to the infants they tended to, these droids were equipped with soothing vocal capabilities and softly glowing eyes that emitted comforting light within a spectrum visible to the infant's species. Each of their numerous fine-motion manipulator limbs was encased in a soft, hypoallergenic padding material, gently heated or cooled to meet the specific needs of the species of the infant in their care. This same material also covered the chest area of the droid's chassis.

Each droid included a diagnostic scanning system that monitored the health of the infants, featuring a bioscanner for tracking vital signs. In urgent situations, they could perform minor medical procedures and used an integrated comlink to immediately notify the appropriate emergency services along with the infant's parents. Each RO-series droid was individually programmed with data specific to the species they would be interacting with, and they also had access to Utilitech's extensive databases, providing them with a wealth of information, including a first-aid database. The databases and core programming could be updated through a port located on the upper chest of the unit, allowing connection via data cable to common public or private networks.

History

The RO-series childcare and nanny droid was the result of a collaborative manufacturing effort between GoCorp and Utilitech. Despite primarily focusing on repulsorcraft production, GoCorp willingly supplied smooth and dependable drive systems for Utilitech's service droids. Consequently, the uni-wheel drive and chassis from Utilitech's highly successful WA-7 waitress droid were adapted and utilized as the foundation for the RO-series. This series proved to be a long-lasting success for both companies.

R0-Z67 cared for infants kidnapped for Darth Sidious.

The Sith Lord known as Darth Sidious modified the RO-series nanny droid RO-Z67 and her "sister" unit for service in a secret facility located on the planet Mustafar. His intention was to raise kidnapped Force-sensitive infants to serve his purposes. He corrupted the RO-series's inherent care and kindness, stripping away its considerate and gentle aspects, transforming the droids into figures resembling nightmarish surgical droids rather than childcare units. Modifications implemented by the Sith's technicians included the addition of medical canisters containing basic medicines and nutrients for the children, as well as the expansion of the droids' medical database and surgical programming.

The Sith even altered the droids' programmed duty of care, turning them into cruel surgeons capable of carrying out unnecessary and vicious operations on their subjects, and even witnessing or participating in events or procedures that resulted in the death of one of the children. Equipped with knives, needles, and other sharp instruments, these two units could even function as combat droids if the situation demanded it.

During the Clone Wars, the bounty hunter Cad Bane captured the infants Wee Dunn and Zinn Toa under Sidious's orders and placed them in the care of RO-Z67 and her sister at the Mustafar facility. The pair cared for the infants until the Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano rescued the children, destroying the facility and the droids in the process. Despite this setback, Sidious had further nanny droids altered and built new facilities on Mustafar where Force-sensitive infants where raised to become members of the Inquisitorius.

Several RO-series droids were employed in Tipoca City on Kamino. One was observed passing by a four-limbed science droid as Clone Captain Rex and ARC trooper Fives escorted Tup to Nala Se and Shaak Ti in the direction of the central lab.

Several RO-series droids provided their services within the Jedi Temple medical bay located in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Two were seen passing by Grand Master Yoda when Jedi Master Mace Windu made the decision to confine him to his bed within the hospital.

Behind the scenes

The RO-series childcare and nanny droid made its initial appearance in "Children of the Force," which was the third episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Two. This episode was originally broadcast on October 9, 2009. The droid model received its designation in the 2016 magazine titled Star Wars: Build Your Own R2-D2 33, published by De Agostini.
