Ront Byrnloo was a pirate and bounty hunter of the human male variety. He worked as an enforcer for the Hutt crime lord known as Jabba Desilijic Tiure. Before joining Jabba in the search for the smuggler Han Solo at Docking Bay 94, he spent some time at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in the spaceport of Mos Eisley which is located on the planet Tatooine. Along with several other thugs, Byrnloo began to search around Solo's ship, the Millennium Falcon, but the smuggler then showed up and offered to repay the money he owed the Hutt. After some back and forth with Solo about the debt's interest, Jabba told Byrnloo and the others to stand down, and they departed the docking bay.

Ront Byrnloo was a human male, a pirate, and a bounty hunter from the planet Corellia, making him a native. He served as an enforcer for the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure. In the year 0 BBY, Byrnloo was at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in the spaceport of Mos Eisley on the planet Tatooine, drinking at the bar with two other human thugs. It was at this time that Luke Skywalker, a local moisture farmer, and the hermit Obi-Wan Kenobi came in with the droids C-3PO and R2-D2.
Byrnloo, along with the two other thugs, then left the cantina. They joined Jabba, three Rodians, and the bounty hunter Boba Fett and traveled to Docking Bay 94 in Mos Eisley. There, the Millennium Falcon, a YT-1300 light freighter, was docked. The starship belonged to Han Solo, who was a smuggler working for Jabba. Solo owed Jabba money because he dumped a shipment of Jabba's spice in space when he ran into an Imperial ship. Byrnloo and the others began to search Solo's ship as Jabba called out to Solo, asking him to come out and meet him.

Brea and Senni Tonnika, the sisters, had a plan to steal the Falcon. They snuck in the back of the docking bay. But upon seeing Byrnloo and the other thugs with Jabba, they gave up on their plan and left to find another ship. Solo, who was not on the ship at all, surprised Byrnloo and the others when he spoke to Jabba from the entryway to the bay. He had just arrived from the cantina nearby.
The Hutt scolded Solo for not paying him back and for killing Greedo, who was another one of his thugs, in the cantina. Solo then offered to pay the Hutt back with interest, using credits he would get from a job he had just accepted from Kenobi. They argued about the interest amount, and finally agreed on fifteen percent. Jabba was satisfied, so he told his thugs to stand down. Byrnloo and the others then left the docking bay.
Ront Byrnloo had a blaster pistol with him in Docking Bay 94. He also wore black pants and boots, along with a white, long-sleeved shirt and a brown, sleeveless duster.

In the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which is part of the original trilogy, Ront Byrnloo was played by the actor "Big" Ron Tarr. The character was in two scenes in the film: the cantina and the docking bay. The docking bay scene was cut from the original 1977 release, but it was later added back in as part of the Special Edition re-release of the film in 1997. The docking bay scenes were filmed at Elstree Studios on stage 3 between Friday, April 9, and Thursday, April 22, 1976. The cantina scenes were filmed on stage 6 at Elstree between Tuesday, April 12, and Thursday, April 22.
The character did not have a name for forty years after he first appeared. Then, Pablo Hidalgo, a member of the Lucasfilm Story Group, named Byrnloo at the "Behind the Scenes of the Cantina" panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando on April 15, 2017. He used a combination of the actor's name and the name of Bryan Lewis, who was attending the panel. The idea of pirates going with Jabba to Docking Bay 94 first appeared in the third draft of the film's script. The revised fourth draft originally said that the thugs with Jabba were six alien pirates and purple creatures. Three Rodian aliens were in the film, but the purple creatures were replaced with humans, including Byrnloo.
