Slovar

Slovar, characterized by their sizable bodies and furry exterior, were predators possessing six limbs. During the Republic Era, a collection of these creatures established a nest within a derelict temple belonging to the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door located on the planet Cerosha. After Minakatso, a member of the brotherhood, opened the cave, thus rousing the slovar, they initiated the abduction of children from the city of Műch, leading the inhabitants to dub them "snatcher".

Following the rescue of the child Peroka from a slovar by Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn, the two commenced an investigation into the creatures, eventually tracing one back to their temple lair. There, they encountered Minakatso, freeing him from his restraints and inadvertently awakening the Slovar Queen. Subsequently, Minakatso and Jinn engaged in combat with four of the slovar, ultimately slaying the queen before resealing the temple's entrance. Jinn later recounted his encounter with the slovar on Cerosha to his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Biology and appearance

Slovar had six limbs and a varying number of eyes.

The slovar were a species of sizable, predatory beings, distinguished by their fur-covered bodies, which could be brown, gray, black, or black with white streaks. They possessed six limbs: two large arms terminating in five-clawed digits, two smaller arms extending from their chest, each with only three clawed digits, and two substantial legs ending in five-clawed feet. The head of a slovar featured a maw filled with sharp teeth and a pink tongue, along with two pointed, furry ears, a black snout, and several pairs of eyes. These eyes appeared white in daylight but glowed red in darkness. Slovar could possess two, four, or five pairs of eyes.

Behavior

Slovar exhibited the ability to ascend structures like buildings and trees, and they were capable of leaping between them for locomotion. They constructed nests in cave-like settings, where they would restrain their captives, and they existed in social structures governed by a queen. Their hunting strategy involved targeting children, whom they would swiftly abduct.

History

A nest disrupted

Qui-Gon Jinn saved the child Peroka from a slovar in Műch on Cerosha.

During the reign of the Galactic Republic, a slovar group established a nest within a deserted temple associated with the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door on the planet Cerosha, leaving bones scattered around the area. The temple was situated inside a cave, its entrance sealed by a substantial boulder, until Minakatso, a member of the brotherhood, displaced the boulder in his quest to locate a scroll penned by the group's founder, Sarasti Thel. Startled by Minakatso's intrusion, the slovar ambushed him, binding him to a pillar and leaving him to die.

The Solvar started to hunt children in the city of Műch, abducting at least two young boys, carrying one screaming into the woods in front of a parent. The city's inhabitants began calling the slovar the "snatcher," not realising there was more than one, and some came to believe that they only took naughty children. A little more than a week after the slovar attacks began, one attempted to snatch the human child Peroka in the forested outskirts of the city. The Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn overheard the commotion from nearby and came to Peroka's defense with his lightsaber. The slovar swiped at the Jedi and knocked him to the ground, but the Jedi then used the Force to push it back into a wall. The creature then fled up a nearby tree.

Hunting the child snatchers

Following Peroka's account of the "snatchers," Jinn deduced the presence of multiple individuals and, together, they initiated inquiries among the locals and scrutinized footprints in an attempt to ascertain their origin. Once prepared to confront the creatures, Jinn instructed Peroka to remain in the safety of the city. Subsequently, the Jedi located a slovar as it descended from a city rooftop into a tree and tracked it through the forest back to the creatures' nest at the temple. Upon reaching the temple entrance, Jinn noticed Peroka's surreptitious following and cautioned the child to remain close as they ventured into the temple.

Qui-Gon Jinn slew a Slovar Queen.

Inside, they found Minakatso bound to the pillar, whom Jinn freed, inquiring whether the slovar had abducted him from the city. Minakatso explained that he had entered the cave willingly but was unaware of the slovar's presence. A rumbling sound alerted the trio to the arrival of four slovar, including the Slovar Queen, who had been awakened by the Jedi's arrival. While Peroka concealed himself, Jinn and Minakatso engaged the creatures in combat, during which one of the slovar knocked Minakatso to the ground. The queen then targeted Perako, but Minakatso saved the child by hurling a electrostaff into the beast's head.

Jinn then threw two of the slovar through the air with the Force and Minakatso told the Jedi to run at the queen, promising to use the Force to lift him higher when he attacked. With the other Force-user's assistance, Jinn then leapt over the queen and slashed its head with his lightsaber, killing it. With the fighting over, Minakatso departed and Jinn sealed the cave with the boulder once more. years later, Jinn told his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi about his encounter with Minakatso and the slovar while the pair were investigating the Tomb of Sarasti Thel.
