Plot summary

Opening crawl

Geonosis

Luminara Unduli and Mace Windu are dispatched to Geonosis with the mission of taking down the planetary defenses, which are composed of a series of anti-orbital cannons, before the arena battle begins. With the planet now vulnerable, the pair are then tasked with eliminating the Separatist forces at a nearby landing zone to create a safe path for the Republic transports carrying the Jedi. Once the transports arrive at the Petranaki arena, they deploy their Jedi cargo and rescue the captured heroes. However, Windu is then required to command a squad of Republic commandos on a mission to destroy any Separatist ships that are launching, followed by defeating three Dark Acolytes. Despite the Republic's victory on Geonosis, the war is just beginning.

Rhen Var

Despite Rhen Var not being strategically important to the Republic, the Evacuation of Rhen Var represents a significant defeat for them. The Republic forces stationed on Rhen Var, which are insufficient to counter the invasion, are able to evacuate with minimal losses thanks to the coordinated efforts of Jedi Knights Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Prior to the battle, the two Jedi sense an impending invasion and quickly travel to Rhen Var to oversee the evacuation.

However, as the final outpost prepares to evacuate, the Confederacy launches an attack, forcing Anakin to defend the outpost alone to prevent its destruction. Once the evacuation is complete, the Confederacy begins to destroy the Outpost.

Raxus Prime

The battle of Raxus Prime.

Approximately one month following the Battle of Geonosis, and shortly after the events on Rhen Var, the Republic detects unusual activity on Raxus Prime. Consequently, they dispatch a strike team led by Obi-Wan and Anakin to investigate.

Upon arriving, Anakin and Obi-Wan initiate a scouting mission on the planet's surface. After eliminating an enemy scout party, they uncover a Separatist excavation site and request reinforcements from their assault ship.

To buy time for their strike force to land, Anakin and Obi-Wan launch an assault on three supply convoys, hindering the enemy's operations. Once the strike force arrives, they battle their way toward the excavation site, encountering traps and ambushes along the way. Eventually, they reach their destination, where a second group of Republic forces is waiting. They destroy the shield generator, enabling the second strike team to join the battle. Both teams simultaneously attack and eliminate the remaining defenders, as well as the fuel lines for the excavation cranes.

As the battle concludes, Anakin witnesses Count Dooku escaping aboard a Hardcell-class interstellar transport and gives chase. As the Techno Union ship takes off, the Separatists deploy their devastating weapon, the Protodeka. The Protodeka obliterates the entire Republic strike force. Obi-Wan manages to destroy the war machine on his own, but by the time reinforcements arrive, Dooku's ship has already fled the system with Anakin and a large excavated component.

Alaris Prime

Following his encounter with Count Dooku on Raxus Prime, Anakin is captured and transported to Alaris Prime, a moon of Kashyyyk, where he is scheduled to be executed. Anakin and the other prisoners, including the mercenary Bera Kazan, are destined to be killed by the component Dooku retrieved from Raxus Prime: the Force Harvester, an ancient Sith weapon designed to drain the Force from all living beings within its vicinity. Utilizing the Force, Anakin manages to break free from his cell, along with Bera. After liberating the remaining prisoners, they escape using stolen Single Trooper Aerial Platforms. Shortly thereafter, the Harvester reaches full charge and begins to absorb energy from the moon's forest. Anakin and Bera navigate the terrain to evade the Harvester's blast radius. Eventually, they pass through a small Wookiee village (the player can choose whether or not to warn them of the impending danger), and the Force Harvester's power begins to diminish.

Anakin and Bera seek refuge in a hidden Wookiee village, where they discover that the CIS has disrupted all planetary communications. Together, they formulate a plan to contact the Republic. Using a captured Armored Assault Tank, Anakin and Bera infiltrate a CIS communications outpost and transmit a distress signal to the Republic. Soon after, the CIS attack the last remaining Wookiee village on the moon. By employing traps, Anakin and Bera successfully block enemy reinforcements from entering through the canyons. However, they are unable to establish traps north of the village, where the majority of the enemy forces are advancing. They are forced to defend against the enemy until the Republic fleet arrives. During the battle, Republic forces (led by Obi-Wan) arrive and drive off the CIS army. Anakin and Obi-Wan trace the army back to its origin: a Separatist dropship called the Harbinger. Together, they destroy the Harbinger, cutting off the continuous flow of CIS war machines. Bera survives the battle, but her subsequent fate is unknown. The forests are devastated by the Force Harvester and the numerous battles, forcing the native Wookiees to abandon their home and seek a new one.

Upon returning to their headquarters, Anakin and Obi-Wan report the events on Alaris Prime to Yoda and Mace Windu. Windu reveals that during the Great Sith War, the Sith constructed a weapon of immense power known as the Dark Reaper, which required vast amounts of energy to function. The Force Harvester was designed to gather the necessary energy for the Reaper to operate. Mace also explains that one Jedi, Master Ulic Qel-Droma (who later fell to the Dark Side before returning to the Light Side), learned how to resist the Reaper's effects. He shared this knowledge with others, enabling the Jedi to defeat the Dark Reaper. After the war, the Jedi scattered the remaining pieces of the Dark Reaper across the galaxy, and Anakin deduces that Dooku has now located them. Windu warns that if Dooku successfully reactivates the Dark Reaper, they will have no chance against it. He also mentions that after the war, Qel-Droma sought refuge on Rhen Var, where his tomb is located. Recognizing that this is where they need to go to learn how to defeat the Dark Reaper, Obi-Wan and Anakin assemble a strike force to retake Rhen Var.

Return to Rhen Var

Obi-Wan and Anakin initiate a large-scale assault on Rhen Var, with Anakin engaging in aerial combat and Obi-Wan leading ground forces. The overwhelming force of the attack overwhelms the Separatists, and Obi-Wan is able to guide his troops to the temple. At the temple, Anakin encounters spectral guardians protecting Qel-Droma's tomb. After defeating them, Qel-Droma appears before him, acknowledging that he has passed the tests. He offers to teach Anakin how to defeat the Dark Reaper but cautions him that the power comes with a significant risk of succumbing to the dark side.

Thule

The Dark Reaper

Upon his return, Anakin informs Yoda and Windu that the Dark Reaper is buried on Thule. Based on this information, they prepare their attack. Anakin and his strike force disable the planetary shield on the Thule moon, Sivvi. This allows Obi-Wan to conduct an aerial assault on key strategic locations across Thule using a Low Altitude Assault Transport. He destroys the Command Installation to disrupt Separatist communications. Windu then leads the ground forces around Thule's capital city of Kesiak. Upon his arrival, Cydon Prax destroys Windu's TX-130 Saber-class fighter tank, forcing Windu to proceed on foot to open the gates to the Sith Temple. Finally, Anakin and his strike force enter the Sith Temple. Anakin defeats Cydon Prax, allowing him to advance. Because Anakin is the only commander immune to the Dark Reaper's effects, he defeats it with Qel-Droma's guidance. However, the knowledge he gained from Qel-Droma makes him act more arrogantly towards Obi-Wan, pushing him further down the path towards the Dark Side of the Force. Meanwhile, Dooku is nowhere to be found, and Windu remarks to Yoda that the victory on Thule will shift the momentum of the war. Yoda responds, "The battle we have won. But far from over, this war is".

Gameplay

Within the game, players alternate between controlling the Jedi characters Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi of the Jedi Order. The Clone Wars is primarily focused on vehicular combat, though there are some segments where Skywalker and Windu engage in on-foot action.

The game features 16 missions, which are organized across six different planets. Each mission comprises two to three primary objectives, along with two to three optional bonus objectives. Completing these bonus objectives unlocks additional content, such as a 3D gallery of vehicles from the game, concept art, and an interview with the game's development team.

Multiplayer

The game's multiplayer mode offers four distinct game types: Duel, Academy, Control Zone, and Conquest. Each game type is set in various locations, including Thule and Geonosis.

In Conquest, up to four players are divided into two teams: the Republic and the CIS. Each team aims to control as many outposts as possible until they have sufficient strength to destroy the opposing team's home base. Each outpost can construct four turrets and either two All Terrain Experimental Transports or Armored Assault Tanks, depending on the team. This mode is available on Rhen Var, Geonosis, Thule Moon, and Kashyyyk. Republic players can control either a TX-130 Saber-class fighter tank or an All Terrain Experimental Transport. Separatist players can control a Ground Armored Tank or an Armored Assault Tank.

In Control Zone, the objective is to be the only player within a designated zone for a specific duration or until a predetermined number of points is reached. Players earn one point per second while in the Control Zone and one point for each player they eliminate.

In Duel, two to four players engage in combat until a set number of points is reached or a time limit expires. The player with the most points at the end of the time limit, or the first player to reach the score limit, wins.

Playable vehicles in Duel and Control Zone include All Terrain Experimental Transports, TX-130 Saber-class fighter tanks, Ground Armored Tanks, Armored Assault Tanks, and Hailfire Droids.

The Academy training game focuses on survival. One to four players attempt to survive as many waves of enemies as possible. The number and type of enemies vary with each wave. Every third round is either a duel or a bonus round (in the Thule Moon version). There are only two locations for this game type, each offering a different experience. In the Geonosis version, players assume the role of a Jedi Knight or other character and try to survive waves of Geonosian warriors, Dwarf Spider Droids, Super Battle Droids, and Battle Droids. The Thule Academy version places players in either a TX-130 Saber-class fighter tank or an All Terrain Experimental Transport, where they face waves of OG-9 homing spider droids, IG-227 Hailfire-class droid tanks, Heavy Artillery Guns, Single Trooper Aerial Platforms, NR-N99 Persuader-class droid enforcers, Ground Armored Tanks, Armored Assault Tanks, Dark Acolytes, and Protodekas.
