Discovery

I stumbled upon this website during my yearly pilgrimage to TheForce.net. A news item regarding the newly launched Wookieepedia snagged my attention. Having some familiarity with the innovative approach of Wikipedia, my interest was piqued.

After a brief look, I was immediately captivated.

All About ToRsO bOy

  • Just a casual enthusiast, really.
  • Possesses a rapidly expanding library of Star Wars books and graphic novels.
  • Favors the Expanded Universe material over the theatrical releases.
  • Has a fondness for creating lists. I understand that having a list of all the articles I've contributed might seem self-centered, but it's harmless, so please disregard it.
  • A fan of Weird Al Yankovic, which explains the username.
  • Aspires to dress up as a Null Arc for cosplay.

It would be awesome if-

What I consider garbage

  • Flow-walking . No matter how you rebrand it, it still resembles time travel to me.

  • Force Phantoms . Why bother with a Galaxy Gun when you can eliminate someone in their sleep from a distance of a million kilometers?

  • The Swarm War . A collective consciousness that converts you upon association? Give me a break. At least execute it in the style of the Puppet Masters .

  • Daala assuming the role of the new Chief of State... Simply unsettling.

  • The Disney sequels.

Personal Musings

  • Initially, I assumed that Tatooine surnames consisted of a noun or adjective followed by a verb (Skywalker, Darklighter, Sandskimmer, Fardreamer). However, after reading more books, I realized that it could be a noun, adjective, or verb combined randomly, as long as it forms a compound word (Whitesun, Marstrap).

  • Another observation about Tatooine: So far, we have 2 Skywalkers (Anakin and Luke) and 2 Tuskens (Asharad and Tahiri) who have joined the Sith Order. Quite the coincidence.

  • I believe Karen Traviss is the first Star Wars author to actually use the word 'rape' in a SW novel, and I have a foreboding feeling about it.

  • We now have Nat and Kol . I'm fairly certain there's another secret Skywalker sibling named King.

  • Jacen Solo received unfair treatment as a character. As a child , he told terrible jokes. As a teenager , he was annoying, weak, uncertain, and generally a pain. He had a brief period where everything clicked into place and he became awesome . Then, just as quickly, he transformed into a complete megalomaniacal jerk . What a shame.

  • Have you noticed how Michael A. Stackpole almost always concludes his chapters with corny lines spoken by characters?

  • Jaina's training with Fett was written in a disappointing way. One gets the impression that she'll acquire skills in hunting Jedi, or perhaps even don Mandalorian armor and a jetpack. But instead, we get a lesson on surprising your opponent and going wild with a sword. Seriously? Surely Fett could have taught her something more valuable. And on a related note: What was the purpose of Jaina learning Shatterpoint ? She never used it during her battle with Caedus. Was it because he knew that she would then have to learn it as well?

  • I imagine that The Crystal Star was written from the perspective of the young Solo children. This would account for the simplistic style and the majority of the heroes acting out of character.

Lessons Gleaned from Star Wars

  • When searching for memorabilia, you can obtain it quickly, in excellent condition, or at a low price: choose only two.

  • Reality remains unaffected by your beliefs.

  • Your reality is shaped by your focus.

  • Love is not a pathway to the dark side. Passion can lead to anger and fear, which can be manipulated, but passion differs from love. Controlling your passions while experiencing love is what you should be wary of, but love itself will redeem, not condemn you.

  • Before entrusting someone with power, you must contemplate whether you could accept the worst possible use of that power.

  • A forced apology holds no value.

  • Pacifism pursued solely for its own sake becomes the epitome of arrogant selfishness when it hinders you from acting to protect others from harm.

  • The six P's, sir: Proper Planning Prevents Poor... Performance, sir.
