Vodran was a planet situated within Hutt Space, specifically at grid coordinate S-9 on the Standard Galactic Grid. This world was characterized by its swampy and shadowed jungle environments. It served as the homeworld for the sentient Vodran species. Additionally, dianogas, carnivorous cephalopods, also inhabited Vodran and subsequently dispersed throughout the galaxy by infesting the garbage tanks and bilges of starships. The Hutt Cartel, under the dominion of the Hutts from the nearby planet Nal Hutta, seized control of Vodran. Consequently, the Vodrans were subjugated into slaves or vassals. At a later time, the Hutts relinquished their hold on the world, allowing the swamp to reclaim much of the planet.
The initial reference to Vodran occurred in Galaxy Guide 1: A New Hope, a Star Wars Legends resource released in 1989 for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, collaboratively authored by Michael Stern and Grant S. Boucher. Its establishment within canon came with its inclusion in Ultimate Star Wars, a canon reference guide published in 2015, which was a collaborative effort by Patricia Barr, Adam Bray, Daniel Wallace, and Ryder Windham.
