Yacombe

The group known as the Yacombe had prior associations with the dark side of the Force, and uniquely, its members communicated exclusively through intermediaries. Back in 382 BBY, a representative from the Yacombe sought membership in the Convocation of the Force, a council providing advisory functions, situated in the Holy City on the moon of Jedha. During this period, two representatives from separate religious factions launched an assault on the Yacombe delegate, leading Jedi Knight Oliviah Zeveron to step in and offer protection. Ultimately, the Yacombe representative chose to withdraw from the Convocation, realizing it didn't align with their objectives. By 88 BBY, at least one relic connected to the Yacombe was secured within the Archive of Forbidden Artifacts, a designated area within the Jedi Temple located on the planet of Coruscant.

Description

The Yacombe were composed of Force-sensitive individuals. Once linked to the dark side of the Force, the Yacombe eventually distanced themselves, achieving neutrality by 382 BBY. Susalee, the representative of the Lonto species within the Convocation of the Force—an advisory body uniting diverse factions tied to the Force—mentioned that the Yacombe pursued universal equilibrium. Instead of direct speech, the Yacombe utilized proxies as their means of communication. Their attire typically consisted of purple robes, and they wielded twin blades as their chosen weapons.

History

Convocation of the Force

The Yacombe representative

In the year 382 BBY, a Yacombe envoy journeyed to the Convocation Chambers located in the Holy City of Jedha (the moon) to formally request the Yacombe's acceptance into the Convocation of the Force. The Yacombe's voice was channeled through a Ximpi proxy. While present in the Convocation Chambers, the envoy faced threats from Sirené and Waran Val, who were representatives of the Fallanassi and Matukai religious orders, respectively. These individuals accused the Yacombe of being dark side adherents and instigators seeking to disrupt and corrupt. The envoy's proxy asserted the envoy's detachment from the dark side, emphasizing that no Yacombe members were associated with it.

Susalee affirmed a longstanding connection between the Lonto and the Yacombe, confirming the Yacombe's abandonment of the dark side of the Force many generations prior. Waran then questioned the envoy's need for a proxy, prompting Elris Florent, the Convocation representative of the Disciples of the Whills, to clarify that the Yacombe exclusively communicated through proxies and deserved a fair hearing of their application. Nevertheless, the representatives persisted in their hostile actions.

Leaving the Convocation and legacy

Oliviah Zeveron protected the Yacombe envoy when she petitoned to join the Convocation.

Before either attacker could reach the envoy, Jedi Knight Oliviah Zeveron intervened to protect the Yacombe, successfully de-escalating the situation by highlighting the Yacombe's non-violent response. Following an apology from Kilan T'Dara, the representative of the Church of the Force and leader of the Convocation, the Yacombe communicated through their Ximpi proxy, announcing the withdrawal of their application. Before departing, the representative's proxy declared that the Yacombe had sought a haven of peace and harmony, which they failed to find. Subsequently, Herald Werth Plouth of the Path of the Open Hand religious order, while attempting to discredit the Convocation of the Force, falsely claimed to the people of Jedha that the Convocation had mistreated and assaulted the Yacombe representative.

In 88 BBY, Jedi Initiates Dooku and Sifo-Dyas secretly entered the Archive of Forbidden Artifacts, a restricted Bogan Collection within the Jedi Archives of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant (a planet). There, they observed artifacts linked to groups like the Sith, the Sorcerers of Tund, and the Yacombe. Sifo-Dyas expressed his astonishment at the artifacts and pondered their origins.

Behind the scenes

The Yacombe were initially referenced in a flashback within the audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, authored by Cavan Scott and released on April 30, 2019. The spelling of "Yacombe" was officially confirmed by the audio drama's script release on October 1 of the same year. The organization's initial appearance occurred in the comic story "Peace and Unity," published by Marvel Comics in the first issue of the 2022 Star Wars: The High Republic comic series, as part of Phase II of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project on October 12, 2022. Scott wrote the issue, and Andrea Broccardo provided the illustrations. Scott later revealed in a Q&A session that the Yacombe's design was inspired by the rightmost Jedi figure in Phil Noto's concept art for Star Wars: The High Republic.
