Santari Khri

Biography

During the High Republic era, Khri designed several meditation chambers for use in training Jedi. Many of these could be found on the Outer Rim planet Koboh where she set up a laboratory in the Forest Array.

During her research of the planet, Khri began to investigate the Koboh Abyss - a deadly nebula near the planet. She was of the belief that Koboh matter originated from the Abyss itself, stating the strange substance was enigmatic but not beyond their ability to study and manipulate. She concluded that, like all things, once the substance was understood, it could be channeled and thus controlled. She used specialized wave technology in order to achieve success in dispelling Koboh matter, which allowed her and her team to unlock deeper analysis into the Abyss. Khri believed that with the Republic and Jedi working together, they would understand the mysteries of the galaxy and harness them for the greater good as the Force guided their path.

She was close with the Jedi Knight Dagan Gera. When Gera uncovered knowledge on the hidden planet Tanalorr, Khri was apprehensive about him traveling to the planet alone, given the risks posed by traversing the Abyss. She eventually relented after Gera told her that she was the only one who could guide him back and assist in the creation of compass devices for the purpose of safely navigating to the planet. Despite this, she was adamant that Gera make it back safely. After Gera dangerously navigated the Abyss, Khri and her scientists used his flight data to create several compasses, allowing them to repeatedly and safely navigate the Abyss.

She would later visit the planet with Gera and was impressed by its natural beauty and vibrance, but joked with the Jedi, stating that she would not allow him to name the next world they discovered. Gera established an outpost temple on the hidden world with the aim of training future generations of the Order. Khri was initially hesitant about the idea due to the planet’s challenging location and told Gera a member of the Jedi Council must visit the planet to conduct studies as all communications were blocked due to the Abyss, and eventually Jedi Master Oppo Rancisis traveled to the planet.

She retained faith in both Gera and the Council when it came to deciding on Tanalorr’s use. Khri believed Tanalorr could repel the threat of the enemies that plagued the Republic and could be a beacon of hope and justice across the Outer Rim, ultimately seeing the idea as a dream of a better future. The planet divided the Council, however, due to its location and lack of communication channels which upset Gera who felt betrayed by the Council’s lack of faith.

However, when the Nihil attacked the planet, Gera, Khri, and Rancisis were forced to flee. Believing the Nihil had stolen a compass, the Jedi Council ordered Tanalorr abandoned, and fearing a Nihil invasion, ordered the destruction of the compasses - a decision that enraged Gera.

Khri returned to Koboh to continue her scientific research, but Gera remained obsessed with Tanalorr. She told her fellow Jedi that even though the Council had given up on him, she knew who he truly was, even if he himself had forgotten. Gera became overwhelmed with his obsession and later attempted to take the last remaining compass that belonged to Khri. Sensing his rage and turmoil, Khri told Gera that her despair was for him and demanded that he surrender so that they could figure things out together. She knew that it was too late for her to go with him and knew that his pursuit of Tanalorr had changed him completely. As Gera became forceful with his actions, Khri refused to step aside for him and ignited her lightsaber in a warning manner. He believed that she wanted the same as him ultimately, but Khri was forced to cut off his arm when he tried to take the compass forcefully. Khri put him in a bacta tank so she would not have to kill him, but did not tell the Jedi Council of her mercy. Khri left behind a holomessage for Gera's awakening, offering him the choice to find her or continue his obsessive pursuit of Tanalorr.

During the Great Hyperspace Disaster, Khri was on Koboh when its moon was hit by an Emergence, the resulting debris causing massive damage to the planet's surface. Before fleeing the planet, Khri erased all knowledge of how to navigate the Koboh Abyss from the memory banks of the droid ZN-A4 (Zee), and charged her to recover the key to Tanalorr from the Forest Array. The droid, however, got trapped in a chamber below the surface, and was unable to complete her mission until 9 BBY, when she was rescued by Jedi Knight Cal Kestis who eventually traversed the Abyss to discover the hidden planet of Tanalorr.

Personality and traits

Khri was an astute, intelligent, and well-respected member of the Jedi Order during the High Republic era. Her keen mind allowed for scientific advancements and her relationship with the Republic was key to achieving many of her successes.

She was also key in the development of Jedi Meditation Chambers and the training of numerous Jedi. She believed the Force taught that what eyes see and hands touch is not always the truth of the world, and as the world bent to the will of the Force, it would bend to those who choose to wield it.

Khri would teach that to be still is to be calm, thus allowing for wisdom to spring forth, and whilst the galaxy is seldom static, the motion could provide clarity. She believed in letting truth flow like a river to carve new channels around any obstacle.

She believed that problems were often a matter of perspective. If people shifted their position, their thinking would shift also, and thus by reframing it, a problem may not seem so vexing after all. Khri would educate Jedi that their mind was their greatest asset working as both a blade and shield against dark forces. She would say that the Force moved through their thoughts and into their actions, and Jedi should allow this to guide them.

In 9 BBY, Khri's work, laboratories, and compasses were eventually discovered by Cal Kestis which set him on a journey to reach the hidden world of Tanalorr. Before reaching the planet, he would defeat and kill her friend and confidante Dagan Gera in combat, ultimately using Gera's greatest fear, being rejected forsaken by his friend Santari Khri, to defeat him.

Zee stated the Forest Array was the outcome of Khri's work, and said that during the High Republic era, she had no equal. The droid acknowledged that there were other scientists and technicians at the time, but all the work completed on Koboh was Khri's doing one way or another.
