Aerial bombardment

A tactic employed by naval forces operating in the sky against targets located on the ground was aerial bombardment.

History

During the events of the First Battle of Geonosis, under the command of Jedi Grand Master Yoda, massive Acclamator-class transgalactic military assault ships entered the upper reaches of the atmosphere above Geonosis, and proceeded to destroy the Geonosian launch hives through aerial bombardment. In 19 BBY, sometime following the establishment of the Galactic Empire from what was once the Galactic Republic, the Imperial regime initiated operations on the planet Kamino, which resulted in the Empire's acquisition of the Kaminoan species' [cloning](/article/cloning] technology. After terminating their operations on Kamino, Imperial Vice Admiral Edmon Rampart commanded a squadron of three Venator-class Star Destroyers to position themselves and unleash fire upon the capital of Tipoca City. This aerial bombardment led to the city's utter destruction, causing it to sink into the planet's expansive oceans, while the clone commandos of the deserted Clone Force 99 along with Imperial Clone Commander Crosshair managed to survive the assault and flee the planet.

Thrawn's bombardment on Peridea

In 3 ABY, the Hutt crime lord Bokku carried out an aerial bombardment targeting Zee-Nine City Seven situated within Hutt Space, although the resulting explosions were blocked by the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Around 9 ABY, Grand Admiral-in-exile Mitth'raw'nuruodo, known as "Thrawn," gave the order for his Star Destroyer, the Chimaera, to open fire on the approaching Force-sensitives Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, and Ezra Bridger as they neared the Great Mothers' Fortress. All three individuals survived this particular attack.
