On the planet of Batuu, there existed a species of bear known as Batuuan braga bears. These creatures were brown in color and actively pursued their prey. The droid SF-R3, during a visit to Batuu, discovered that the sound of a braga bear's growl served as a warning to flee.
These bears were predators that actively hunted their prey, including the inhabitants of Batuu, where they occupied the position of apex predator.

In the year 34 ABY, Kriki, a member of the Chadra-Fan Resistance, observed Zade Kalliday, a smuggler, running in their direction. Kriki initially considered that Kalliday might have encountered a braga bear, but it turned out he was simply in trouble. At some point during or after that year, the safari droid SF-R3 journeyed to Batuu with the aim of studying porgs and teaching them tricks. While ascending a mountain to reach the porgs, his cam droid, CAM, encountered a bear inside a cave, but the droid managed to escape swiftly.
Later, while attempting to train a group of porgs to feign death, a Batuuan braga bear approached, causing the porgs to scatter in fear, leaving the droids alone. The droids also fled, with SF-R3 pleading with the bear not to eat him. When recounting his experiences on Batuu for a holorecording intended for the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, the droid remarked that while he had intended to be the teacher on the planet, he ultimately learned a valuable lesson: to run upon hearing the growl of a braga bear. As he recorded, a bear pursued him again, forcing him to flee once more.
The Batuuan braga bears were initially referenced in the 2019 novel Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire, penned by Delilah S. Dawson. This novel was a component of the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge multimedia project. Their first visual appearance occurred in "Porgs," an episode of the Star Wars Galaxy of Creatures animated shorts, which was released online on October 14, 2021.
