Cantompa

Cantompa, a human male, functioned as a fleet trooper for the Galactic Empire's navy during the Galactic Civil War. He was stationed on the Herald, an _Imperial II_-class Star Destroyer. In 3 ABY, while serving on the Star Destroyer, he gained the confidence of Captain Tabor Seitaron. Seitaron's mission was to capture the Imperial traitor, Everi Chalis. When Chalis intentionally allowed the Herald to capture her above the planet Sullust, Seitaron selected Cantompa and his colleague Zhios to go with him and Prelate Verge to both meet with her and take her into prisoner.

During the encounter with Chalis, the traitor activated roughly twenty ion bombs that were concealed within the shuttle she arrived on, which resulted in a power surge on the Herald. Seitaron instructed Cantompa and Zhios to quickly get to the bridge and issue an order to retreat. However, Verge interrupted shortly after, desiring that the Star Destroyer open fire on Rebel Alliance forces located on Sullust. Cantompa and Zhios hesitated, unsure of what action to take. After Seitaron accidentally caused Verge's death, he reiterated his initial command to the troopers, which the pair then hastily carried out.

Biography

Voyage to Sullust

Cantompa served aboard the Star Destroyer Herald (pictured).

Cantompa, a human male, functioned as a fleet trooper in the Galactic Empire's navy during the Galactic Civil War against the Rebel Alliance. In 3 ABY, he was stationed on the Herald, an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, serving under Imperial Prelate Verge and Captain Tabor Seitaron. Their mission was to locate and capture the Imperial traitor, Everi Chalis. During the pursuit of Chalis, Seitaron developed an appreciation for Cantompa and his associate Zhios. This was due to their attentiveness to the captain when he became ill from a change in his diet, their long hours standing guard outside the Star Destroyer's tactical center, and their witnessing of Verge's torment of their fellow soldiers.

When the Herald finally caught up with Chalis, she and the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry were on the planet of Sullust, having captured the Inyusu Tor mineral processing facility from the Empire's holdings there. During the Empire's attempt to retake the Inyusu Tor facility, Chalis stole a shuttle and surrendered herself to the Herald. Seitaron chose Cantompa and Zhios to accompany him and Verge to the hangar where the traitor's shuttle was being pulled in by tractor beam, as he believed the pair deserved any recognition that might come from capturing Chalis.

Confrontation in the hangar

After the shuttle arrived, Cantompa and Zhios surveyed the hangar. Once one of them signaled that it was safe, the prelate and the captain entered, while the troopers kept their blaster rifles trained on the shuttle's open entrance. Chalis emerged unarmed, with her hands raised in surrender. She greeted Verge and Seitaron, the latter of whom she had previously met while serving the Empire. She mocked the prelate but then offered to share everything she had learned about the Alliance during her time with them in exchange for a pardon. All eyes in the room then turned to see how the angry prelate would react, Verge stepping forward and throwing Chalis to the ground. With the prelate rejecting her offer, Chalis detonated around twenty ion bombs she had stored aboard the shuttle.

Cantompa and Zhio assisted Tabor Seitaron and Verge in confronting Everi Chalis (pictured).

The Herald experienced a power surge, and Seitaron attempted to use his comlink to order the ship to withdraw from the atmosphere. However, he discovered that the communicator, along with all other nearby electronics, had been disabled. Consequently, the captain instructed Cantompa and Zhios to deliver the order to the bridge. Since the hangar doors were not opening, the pair removed the control panel and began searching for an override. They managed to open the door slightly as Chalis continued to taunt Verge, but they were thrown to the ground as the Star Destroyer lurched unsteadily. Verge then began beating the traitor, but the fleet troopers continued with the work and managed to open the door enough for one of them to try and squeeze through.

Before Cantompa and Zhios could leave for the bridge, Verge stopped them. He ordered them to instruct the bridge to concentrate all firepower on the 61st below instead of retreating, as he planned to sacrifice the Star Destroyer and its entire crew to prevent a rebel victory. Chalis then struck Verge, and the two began to fight. The fleet troopers stood by, uncertain how to respond to the prelate's suicidal orders. Seitaron then shot Verge with his B22 blaster pistol. With the prelate dead, the captain ordered the guards to tell the bridge crew to pull the Star Destroyer out of orbit, and the pair immediately scrambled out of the hangar. The Herald successfully escaped Sullust's orbit but left the 61st to claim victory on the surface. Seitaron allowed Chalis to escape so that she could disappear and take the blame for the prelate's death.

Personality and traits

Cantompa, a male fleet trooper, earned Seitaron's trust and respect during their service together on the Herald. He stood by while Verge mistreated other crew members and did not voice any objections. He also assisted the captain when he was ill and tirelessly stood guard duty for long hours with Zhios. While accompanying the prelate and the captain to meet with Chalis, Cantompa was unsure how Verge would react to Chalis's offer of intelligence, and stared at him rather than the traitor. After Verge gave orders that would lead to the deaths of his entire crew, the fleet trooper did not immediately obey, standing confused until after the prelate's death when Seitaron gave new orders instead.
