Chief supervisor was a designation and role employed by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. Later, the ruling power, the Galactic Empire, also used it during the Imperial Era.

The Confederacy of Independent Systems utilized the chief supervisor title and position during the Clone Wars; this person oversaw the production of B1-series battle droid within droid manufacturing facilities. The Galactic Empire subsequently adopted this title for use within the Imperial Security Bureau, which functioned as the secret intelligence and law enforcement agency under the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order. Within the ISB structure, officers holding the rank of commander could be designated as chief supervisors, giving them authority over ISB installations and the operation of secret agents. The Imperial rank insignia plaque displayed by an ISB commander serving as chief supervisor consisted of a single row featuring four blue tiles. Another chief supervisor insignia consisted of a single row of one blue tile followed by three red tiles.
During the Clone Wars, a conflict spanning the galaxy between the Confederacy and the Galactic Republic from 22 BBY to 19 BBY, an individual named Poreni held the position of chief supervisor at the Akiva production plant. Poreni informed Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Armies General Grievous that the latest shipment of B1 battle droids was completed ahead of schedule and, as agreed, would be delivered to Hakara for immediate deployment.
In 9 BBY, during the Imperial Era, Commander Lank Denvik was the chief supervisor of the II-0810 Satellite Station, a covert listening post located in the Nova Garon system. As part of his role in the Imperial Security Bureau of the Galactic Empire, Commander Lank Denvik also managed Bode Akuna, a former Jedi who survived the Great Jedi Purge and had begun opposing the remaining Jedi. Denvik ultimately died when Akuna, betraying him to Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader, murdered him because of his failures.
The title chief supervisor was originally introduced in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a 2023 canon video game developed by Respawn Entertainment.
