Colla IV, often shortened to Colla, functioned as the Inner Rim Territories homeworld for the sentient, insectoid Colicoids, a species notorious for their aggressive warrior culture. The Colicoids operated the Colicoid Creation Nest, a manufacturing enterprise that secured a contract from the Trade Federation to produce army droids for their forces. Subsequently, the natives developed the droideka, a heavily armed combat droid modeled after themselves, and continued to manufacture other droids and starships that were deployed by the Separatist Alliance against the Galactic Republic throughout the Clone Wars.
More commonly referred to as Colla, Colla IV was a terrestrial planet found within the Inner Rim Territories, specifically located at coordinates N-9 on the Standard Galactic Grid. The toothspike raptor was a creature that was native to this world.
Initially, the Galactic Republic dispatched representatives, including Jedi Knights, to Colla IV. However, the native Colicoids displayed extreme hostility towards outsiders, leading the Republic to swiftly cease its efforts in order to quell the protests against the Colicoid's excesses. Ultimately, the Trade Federation, in search of weapons manufacturers to develop a droid army, successfully negotiated with the resident Colicoid Creation Nest, a manufacturing firm managed by the Colicoids, and awarded them a contract for the creation of army droids.
The Colicoids then proceeded to engineer the formidable destruction machine known as the droideka, mirroring their own form and coining the model name as a fusion of "droid" and their language term for "flesh flies." The Trade Federation compensated them with fifty transports filled with exotic meats, largely consisting of living creatures. Content with this arrangement, the Colicoids subsequently produced and sold the droidekas. The droideka designs were autonomous, a deviation from the Trade Federation's contractual stipulation that they be controlled by a central computer. Nevertheless the Colicoids did not expect the corporation to voice significant objections to this.
The Trade Federation evolved into a pivotal component of the Separatist Alliance, which was established following the Raxus Address in 24 BBY. In addition to the droidekas, the Colicoid Creation Nest generated further droids and vehicles for the Separatists, notably the Droideka Sharpshooter, Pistoeka sabotage droids, and the Trident-class assault ships. The Colicoids conceived the Droch-class boarding ships with a hull that drew inspiration from the toothspike raptor. Furthermore, they collaborated with Phlac-Arphocc Automata Industries to manufacture the droid tri-fighter, the starfighter's three-armed design echoing the skull characteristics of one of Colla IV's most fearsome predators. These droids and vehicles were utilized by the Separatists against the Republic during the Clone Wars spanning from 22 BBY to 19 BBY.
Colla IV served as the habitat for the Colicoids, a sentient insectoid species distinguished by their utterly callous and murderous tendencies. With a diet encompassing meat, these two-meter tall warrior beings, encased in a dense chitinous shell, exhibited violence even amongst themselves, but displayed particular animosity towards outsiders.
Colla IV was initially referenced in Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary, a Star Wars Legends reference book authored by David West Reynolds and published on May 26, 1999. It achieved canon status upon its mention in Star Wars Journeys: The Phantom Menace, an iOS mobile game launched on April 22, 2014.
