Five Worlds
Sometime in the period between 36 and 39 ABY, a governing body known as the Five Worlds emerged within the Corellian system. This entity openly questioned the advantages of remaining part of the Galactic Alliance.
History
After the Yuuzhan Vong invasion had come to an end, the Galactic Alliance showed its gratitude to Corellia by eliminating the position of Governor-General. The Five Brothers were unified into a system of government, where each planet elected its own Head of State, and the entire system was overseen by the Five World Prime Minister, Aidel Saxan.
While much of the galaxy suffered greatly during the war, Corellia remained largely untouched. This allowed it to further expand its already significant economic influence, providing reconstruction loans to planets in need. As Corellia's wealth grew, it pardoned war criminals like Thrackan Sal-Solo, who then became the system's Minister of War and Head of State of Corellia. Corellia began to resent the Galactic Alliance, much like it had resented the New Republic and Galactic Republic before.
In the ten years following the defeat of the Yuuzhan Vong, Corellia's yearning for independence intensified and gained wider support, fueled by the Corellians' inherent sense of superiority. Corellia started to delay its required conscription contributions and tax payments to the Alliance, while still benefiting from the Alliance's infrastructure and trade agreements. It also resisted the defense limits imposed by the Alliance, although it did so discreetly. Gradually, other industrialized planets, including Commenor, Fondor, and Bespin, began to display similar signs of open rebellion.
In secret, Corellia started to construct a fleet that could rival a planetary assault force, receiving supplies from planets like Adumar that were illegally producing weapons. Simultaneously, Corellian scientists worked to reactivate Centerpoint Station, hoping to use it as a bargaining chip once again. As tensions escalated, Corellia's subtle acts of rebellion led to the imprisonment of prominent Corellians, such as Wedge Antilles, whom Alliance Intelligence considered a potential threat.
In 40 ABY, these simmering tensions exploded into open conflict. After Thrackan Sal-Solo was successfully assassinated by Han Solo, Boba Fett, and Mirta Gev (who were acting as mercenaries for Dur Gejjen), the Galactic Alliance proposed peace negotiations to the new government, but their offer was rejected. With reluctance, Cal Omas declared war on Corellia and its allies.
Unbeknownst to most, except for a select few high-ranking military officials, Thrackan Sal-Solo had secretly built a formidable, top-secret fleet in the shipyards of the Kiris Asteroid Cluster. The day after Sal-Solo's assassination, the new Corellian Government appointed Wedge Antilles as the commander of this fleet, which included several advanced Corellian Dreadnaughts. They also invited Han and Leia Solo to the Kiris Asteroid Cluster to receive instructions. Much to Han's surprise, they were tasked with traveling to Hapes to discuss a potential alliance with Tenel Ka, the Queen Mother of the Hapes Consortium. Unfortunately for the Corellian government, they discovered a plot to overthrow Tenel Ka and resolved to prevent it.
They did more than just that; they also uncovered information about the "Heritage Council," the actual would be usurpers, who had hired Aurra Sing, the infamous Jedi killer and former Jedi Padawan. They met with Lady Morwan, the Heritage Council's representative, and agreed to escort her to Hapes to meet with the Heritage Council's leader, Aleson Gray. During the ensuing battle between loyal Hapan forces (including the Anakin Solo) and the Heritage Council Armada, Aurra Sing managed to breach the Anakin's defenses and attempted to assassinate Allana, Jacen Solo and Tenel Ka's daughter, and the Chume'da of the Cluster. Jacen intervened (with Allana's assistance) and captured her.
Following the failure of the assault fleet at Hapes, Dur Gejjen and his government replaced the hesitant Wedge Antilles with Admiral Genna Delpin, and waited for other worlds to pledge their support. Fortunately for Gejjen, the Sith Lumiya was pursuing her own agenda, aiming to plunge the Galactic Alliance into a larger conflict. Through manipulation, she encouraged Bothawui and Commenor, two planets that had already expressed support for Corellia's cause, to attack the GA blockade. After successfully defeating the Alliance forces under Jacen Solo and Admiral Tarla Limpan, Corellia secured its home system. The Five Worlds government was dissolved, and the region declared itself the Corellian Confederation, which was later renamed to the simpler 'Confederation' at the urging of Bothawui and Commenor.
When the Second Galactic Civil War concluded in 41 ABY, the Confederation surrendered to the Galactic Alliance but chose not to rejoin it.
Military forces
The military of the Five Worlds was composed of the revived CorSec and the Corellian Defense Force, overseen by the Ministry of War and led by a Minister of War. Later, the title of Supreme Commander replaced Minister of War as Commander-in-Chief, and Corellian High Command replaced the Ministry of War in overseeing the military.
After the war began, the Corellian leadership devised a strategy to bring the Hapes Consortium into the alliance. By the time of the Battle of Hapes, Bothawui was providing three cruiser fleets with Corellian crews, and Nal Hutta was close to doing the same.
