Official Synopsis

Introducing Darth Vader to... THE INQUISITORIUS!

Storyline Summary

Securing the Armor

On the planet of Coruscant, Darth Sidious observes Darth Vader's damaged armor as it rests upon an automated platform. He questions Lord Vader about the reasons behind his self-inflicted damage, but also commends his Sith apprentice for his successful acquisition of a Sith lightsaber. Lord Vader is shown recovering within a bacta tank. The Emperor assures him that his droids will quickly repair his armor. Via the Force, Lord Vader expresses his displeasure at the prospect of droids repairing his armor. Recognizing that the armor is an extension of Vader himself, the Emperor permits Lord Vader to utilize his engineering skills to modify it. Once he is ready, he instructs Vader to present himself, as there is work awaiting him. Following the Emperor's departure, Vader employs his Force abilities to repair his armor telekinetically.

Encounter with the Grand Inquisitor

Within the confines of the former Jedi Temple, a cloaked figure makes their way down a hallway, voicing disapproval of the Jedi Order's falsehoods. Simultaneously, as Vader equips his armor, the Emperor informs him of an intruder within the Temple and commands him to handle the situation. The cloaked individual enters the Jedi Archives, in pursuit of knowledge that has been long withheld from them. Vader confronts the intruder, but the intruder remains unfazed by the Sith Lord and ignites their lightsaber. The two then engage in a lightsaber battle.

The cloaked intruder proclaims that Vader is ignorant of the power they possess. However, the Sith Lord uses the Force to propel the intruder into a bookcase, causing numerous holobooks to fall. The intruder, now uncloaked, reveals himself to be the Pau'an known as the Grand Inquisitor and threatens Vader with death. As they continue to fight, the Grand Inquisitor accuses Vader of attempting to steal the knowledge within the Archives for his own gain, which he will not allow, as it was promised to him.

Activating his double-bladed spinning lightsaber, he presses his attack against the armored Lord Vader. However, Vader reveals that he was merely evaluating his suit and halts the Grand Inquisitor's advance by destroying his blade with his lightsaber. Knocked off his feet by the resulting explosion, the Grand Inquisitor demands to know Vader's identity. Before Vader can deliver a fatal blow, the Emperor commands him to cease. He then introduces a surprised Lord Vader to the Grand Inquisitor. A confused Grand Inquisitor recalls that the Emperor had granted him access to the Archives for the purpose of training the Inquisitorius, only to be attacked by this "creature."

The Arrival of the Inquisitorius

When the Grand Inquisitor questions whether Lord Vader is his servant, the Emperor clarifies that Vader serves the Empire and acknowledges that he orchestrated the meeting between Vader and the Inquisitor. The Inquisitor points out that Vader nearly killed him, but the Sith Lord dismisses it as a valuable lesson. While the Grand Inquisitor holds the highest position within the Inquisitorius, Sidious reminds him that the Inquisitorius are ultimately under the control of the Sith. Upon Vader's inquiry about the Inquisitorius, the Emperor invites him to accompany them to The Works in Coruscant's Industrial District.

Within a former factory, guarded by the Emperor's Royal Guards, the Emperor presents Vader to several Inquisitors, including the Sixth Brother, the Fifth Brother, the Seventh Sister, the Eighth Brother, and the Ninth Sister. Jumping down to join the other Inquisitors, the Grand Inquisitor introduces them to their new Sith master, Lord Vader. The Emperor explains to Lord Vader that the Grand Inquisitor was once a Jedi who harbored resentment towards the Order for denying him access to the Higher Councils and its hidden knowledge. The Emperor took advantage of his discontent with the Order. When Vader questions whether the Emperor intentionally placed him in harm's way, the Emperor assures him that Vader is exceptional and that the Grand Inquisitor stood no chance of defeating him.

The Emperor assigns Lord Vader the task of training the Inquisitorius to eradicate the Jedi "infection" from the galaxy. Vader pledges to begin immediately. The Emperor expresses his satisfaction with Vader's dedication, noting that while the majority of Jedi perished during the Great Jedi Purge, only the most fortunate, dangerous, powerful, and deceitful have survived. He charges Vader and the Inquisitorius with hunting down and eliminating the Jedi, considering them the greatest threat to their Galactic Empire. The comic concludes with a glimpse of Jedi archivist Jocasta Nu concealing herself within a cave.
