Flatcake

Flatcakes were a specific kind of thin, circular breakfast pancake that was a favorite among various species across the galaxy, notably humans. In the time leading up to the Clone Wars, passengers traveling on an AA-9 Freighter-Liner between the planets Coruscant and Naboo were offered flatcakes. Years afterward, during the Cold War, a version called Trandoshani flatcakes was available in the Canto Bight casino located on the planet Cantonica. The Suerton Wodibin, who particularly enjoyed this food, helped himself to a plate of flatcakes accompanied by sautéed fruit at the casino.

Description

Flatcakes were a form of thin, circular, and brown pancake that could be made using a flatcake turner and served as a breakfast food. Humans, Twi'leks, Suertons, and Heptooinians were among the species that enjoyed eating flatcakes.

Flatcakes served aboard a Coruscant freighter prior to the Clone Wars

Not long before the start of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, a servant droid working in a cafeteria on an AA-9 Freighter-Liner that was traveling from Coruscant to Naboo prepared flatcakes for the ship's passengers. While carrying four plates of flatcakes and flipping one, the droid chased the astromech droid R2-D2 away from the food counter.

In 11 BBY, Kanan Jarrus, a human Jedi in hiding, joked that he and the Twi'lek pilot Hera Syndulla could order flatcakes while they were squeezed together in the cargo area of the transport Moonglow-72 during a battle on Gorse.

Time for Flatcakes

In 34 ABY, a racing fathier at the Canto Bight racetrack on Cantonica was given the name "Time for Flatcakes." When the group of Suerton gamblers known as the Lucky Three and their Heptooinian friend Kaljach Sonmi arrived at the track to place bets, they learned the fathier's name from Joris, a Canto Casino employee.

The Suerton Wodibin enjoyed flatcakes.

This caused Wodibin to declare that it was always time for flatcakes, and Sonmi, who was hungry, absentmindedly said he wanted some flatcakes. The Suertons misunderstood what Sonmi meant and bought "Time for Flatcakes" for him, which caused a temporary disagreement between the three and Sonmi. Wodibin, who had previously been unsuccessful in his attempts to buy flatcakes late at night in Canto Bight, later discovered a buffet at the Canto Casino that was serving what Sonmi considered to be the most delicious Trandoshani flatcakes in the galaxy and served himself a plate of flatcakes and sautéed fruit.

Before the Seurton could finish eating them, he bumped into Ganzer, a bartender, causing the plate of food and a tray of drinks that Ganzer was carrying to spill on Orisha Okum, a professional gambler who was playing pazaak with Sonmi. The spill revealed a pazaak card that Okum was using to cheat, but Sonmi allowed her to continue using it. However, the card malfunctioned due to the spilled food and drink, leading to Okum losing the game.

Behind the scenes

Flatcakes were first seen in the 2002 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, and were first mentioned by name in the 2007 Star Wars Legends novel Allegiance, by Timothy Zahn. The name was then incorporated into the new Star Wars canon in the 2014 novel A New Dawn, by John Jackson Miller.
