Golas Aram, a Siniteen male reliant on a hover chair, functioned as a prison architect for the Galactic Empire and other entities. He played a role in constructing various Imperial prisons and in repurposing the ancient prison vessel Ashmead's Lock located on the planet Kashyyyk to align with the Empire's requirements. He eventually retired to the planet Irudiru, where he established a heavily fortified compound isolated from other beings, whom Aram largely regarded as unintelligent. Aram's seclusion was disrupted when a group led by the smuggler Han Solo and the New Republic pilot Norra Wexley captured him from his compound during their search for the Wookiee Chewbacca, an inmate of Ashmead's Lock. Subsequently, the former Imperial loyalty officer Sinjir Rath Velus interrogated Aram. By threatening to impair the Siniteen's cognitive abilities, Velus successfully extracted the desired information regarding the prison. Aram was then released, and the group proceeded to Kashyyyk, where they discovered that Aram had withheld the password for Ashmead's Lock, necessitating a violent entry through its defenses.
Golas Aram operated as an independent Siniteen architect specializing in the design of prisons. Throughout his professional life, he engineered such facilities for diverse criminal organizations, including Kanjiklub, the Junihar Cartel, and Splugorra the Hutt. He also contributed to the Galactic Empire by designing several prisons, notably the Lemniscate on the planet Coruscant, the asteroid prison Orko 9, and the Goa Penal Colony. Furthermore, he assisted the Empire with the prison ship Ashmead's Lock, a remnant of the ancient Predori civilization found on the planet Kashyyyk. With Aram's assistance, the Empire transformed this alien vessel into a functional prison used to confine various dissidents. Eventually, he chose to retire to the planet Irudiru, where he constructed a heavily defended compound near the town of Kai Pompos, complete with ample defenses and stocks of creatures such as morak for hunting.
After the Wookiee Chewbacca was captured and imprisoned by the Empire, the smuggler Han Solo journeyed to Irudiru with the intention of extracting information from Aram about the prison to facilitate Chewbacca's release. Solo surveilled Aram's compound for a number of days, observing that the Siniteen routinely scanned his property for surveillance devices. Subsequently, a group led by the pilot Norra Wexley arrived and also began observing the compound, having been directed there by intelligence obtained from the Black Sun and the captive Imperial Adviser Yupe Tashu during their search for Solo. Unaware of Solo's presence, the group monitored Aram's compound for several days, during which Aram remained indoors. Wexley's group then attempted to remotely install a listening device in Aram's residence, but were thwarted by Solo, who drove a herd of Aram's morak towards them before they could deploy the device.
Solo and Wexley's team then collaborated on a plan to capture Aram for interrogation, initiating it under the cover of darkness. Initially, the bounty hunter Jas Emari began detonating the land mines surrounding Aram's compound. These explosions served as a signal for Wexley's son Temmin Wexley and his B1-series battle droid Mister Bones to sever the conduit connecting Aram's compound to the wind farm that supplied its power. This action disabled the turret-droids and laser fences protecting Aram, allowing Sinjir Rath Velus to infiltrate the compound. Alerted to the intrusion, Aram deployed his numerous droid protectors against the intruders, destroyed half of his computer systems, and attempted to escape through tunnels beneath his home. He encountered Solo in the tunnels, who he shocked with his hover chair before continuing to a landing platform with a solar shuttle intended for escape to family on the planet Saleucami. However, Wexley was waiting for him at the shuttle and incapacitated him.
Wexley's group transported Aram aboard their SS-54 assault ship Halo, where Sinjir commenced interrogating him for information regarding Ashmead's Lock. Aram refused to disclose any information under the threat of physical torture, instead expressing complaints about the damage inflicted on his property by his captors and denigrating their intelligence. He relented only when Sinjir threatened to insert a small antenna through Aram's ear, causing damage to his brain and impairing his cognitive abilities. The Siniteen promptly divulged all he knew about the prison, but intentionally omitted the password required for safe entry. Satisfied, the group released Aram and traveled to Kashyyyk, where they nearly fell victim to the prison's defenses due to their lack of the password. Ultimately, the group succeeded in freeing the prisoners of Ashmead's Lock and subsequently proceeded to liberate all of Kashyyyk from Imperial control.
Aram was a Siniteen male who, by the time of his retirement, was confined to a hover chair due to the condition of his legs. He regarded the creation of inescapable, self-sustaining prisons as his art form and attributed Wexley's team's successful breach of his personally designed compound to mere luck. During his residence on Irudiru, Aram exhibited extreme paranoia, surrounding himself with an unusually extensive array of defenses and routinely scanning his residence for surveillance devices. When captured, he showed little concern for threats to his physical well-being and readily insulted and criticized his captors, whom he considered intellectually inferior. This demeanor shifted when they threatened his brain and intellect, prompting him to provide them with most of the information they sought, albeit with a deliberate omission regarding the password requirement at Ashmead's Lock, creating a trap for them.
Golas Aram made his debut in the novel Aftermath: Life Debt, authored by Chuck Wendig and published in 2016.
