The Grove Guardians were a fictional group that supposedly protected the groves found on Hon-Tallos. During the time of the High Republic Era, these guardians were created by Nihil operative Deva Lompop to teach Ghenli a lesson regarding his bullying of Vroma. Ghenli's bullying of Vroma stemmed from his belief that she was stealing the durga berry from the groves. Lompop volunteered to assist Vroma in putting a stop to Ghenli's behavior. The pair then journeyed to the groves to set their plan in motion.
At the groves, Ghenli, accompanied by his friends, confronted Vroma, accusing her of stealing another berry, to which Vroma responded by warning him that the Grove Guardians would disapprove. Disbelieving in the existence of the guardians, Ghenli pursued Vroma through the grove. As the chase unfolded, Ghenli's friends disappeared one by one, leading him to question their whereabouts. Vroma stated that she had attempted to warn him, but now the Grove Guardians were angered. Suddenly, a large figure emerged from the forest, identifying itself as the "Guardian of the Groves." This figure seized Ghenli and opened its large mouth, revealing its sharp teeth. Ghenli, frightened, promised to never steal from Vroma again and fled. Following this, Lompop closed her mouth and departed the groves alongside Vroma.
The Grove Guardians are referenced in "Tales of Villainy: A Very Nihil Interlude," which provides the backstory for the fourteenth and concluding issue of the 2020 Star Wars Adventures anthology Star Wars comic book series. Justina Ireland wrote the comic's story, Nick Brokenshire provided the illustrations, and IDW Publishing published it on February 9, 2022.
