The durga berry was a specific type of berry that could be located on both the astronomical body of Hon-Tallos and the planet known as Dalna. During the time of the High Republic Era, durga berries flourished in groves situated on Hon-Tallos. A Nautolan named Vroma plucked a durga berry from one of these groves, but she was pursued through the city and ultimately knocked down by a human boy named Ghenli, which resulted in the fruit being crushed. Vroma's motivation for wanting the berry was that it was a favorite of her mothers. Subsequently, she encountered Nihil marauder Deva Lompop, who assisted her in devising a strategy to exact revenge on the bully.
At the groves, while Lompop was in the process of formulating her plan, Vroma gathered a durga berry straight from a vine. Despite her initial skepticism, Vroma decided to proceed with the plan. As Ghenli and his companions gave chase to Vroma, Lompop systematically removed them from the pursuit until only Ghenli remained. Lompop asserted that she was the leader of the Grove Guardians and used the extension of her mouth to instill fear in Ghenli. Ghenli admitted to the theft of the fruit, vowed to never repeat the act, and then fled. Vroma expressed her gratitude to Lompop for the assistance she provided and then departed with the durga berry to bring it to her mothers.
Marda Ro, an Evereni cultist affiliated with the Path of the Open Hand, savored a durga berry flavored ice alongside Jedi Padawan Kevmo Zink, which they obtained from a vendor located on the streets of Ferdan.
The initial appearance of the durga berry occurred in the middle grade novel titled The High Republic: Mission to Disaster, which was authored by Justina Ireland. This e-book was released by Disney–Lucasfilm Press on January 4, 2022. The very first visual depiction of the berry was featured in "Tales of Villainy: A Very Nihil Interlude," which served as the backstory for the fourteenth and concluding issue of the 2020 Star Wars Adventures anthology Star Wars comic book series. Ireland was also responsible for writing this comic story, while Nick Brokenshire provided the illustrations, and IDW Publishing handled the publication on February 9, 2022.
Notably, while Mission to Disaster describes durga berries as having a round shape and a purple color, "A Very Nihil Interlude" portrays the same fruit as oblong in shape and green in color, further noting it has a fuzzy exterior.
