Gupins, a sentient species possessing wings, were believed to have arrived on the moon of Endor via a downed ark. This event was estimated to have occurred approximately a millennium prior to the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. Soon after that pivotal conflict, two Gupins journeyed to Bright Tree Village, the home of the Ewok Bright Tree tribe, located on Endor, with the intention of exchanging stories and collaborating.
As a sentient species that walked on two legs, Gupins possessed a pair of wings each, divided into three segments, enabling them to float slightly above the ground. Their skin exhibited a brown hue, and their faces were adorned with a mane of hair, which could be either orange or brown.
The face of a Gupin featured a mouth, a nose, and two eyes, along with a pair of pointed ears that protruded from their hair. The species' legs terminated in feet with two toes, while their two arms ended in hands with three fingers and a thumb. A long, curled tail, sometimes with a tuft of hair at the end, was also a feature of the Gupin anatomy.

It was hypothesized that Gupins, together with goats and Teek, were brought to the forest moon of Endor by a wrecked ark, approximately a millennium before the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. In the immediate aftermath of the battle, news circulated throughout Endor regarding the Bright Tree tribe of Ewoks, including Wicket Wystri Warrick, and their Yuzzum neighbors' successful defense against a group of Imperials who had returned to Endor in search of an Imperial weapons cache.
This event prompted numerous neighbors of the tribe to visit Bright Tree Village to engage with the Ewoks, exchange narratives, and collaborate on shaping the forest's future. At least two Gupins were present at this gathering: one with orange hair, clad in a blue outfit adorned with green patterns, and another with brown hair, sporting a purple outfit, who danced with an Ewok to music performed by a Yuzzum and the Ewok drummer Brethupp.
Within current Star Wars canon, the initial mention of Gupins occurred in "Sentient Species of Endor," an article featured in the "Guide to the Galaxy" section of issue thirty-eighth of De Agostini's Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine series, released around September 23, 2015. Subsequently, Gupins made an appearance in the fourth issue of the Star Wars: Ewoks comic book series, penned by Steve Orlando, illustrated by Laura Braga and Álvaro López, and published on January 29, 2025.
Gupins originated within the Star Wars Legends continuity, with their debut in "To Save Deej," the fourth episode of the first season of the animated series Ewoks. This episode was written by Bob Carrau and broadcast on September 28, 1985. The Gupins featured in Ewoks (2024) 4 align with the designs of the Gupins Mring-Mring and Oobel from the Legends animated series, although they have not yet been officially named within canon.
