Hakotei

Hakotei was a celestial body linked to the Presagers of Hakotei. This group practiced ritualistic sacrifice of individuals to gain visions of what was to come. Although believed to have died out around 82 BBY, a single coven, under the leadership of an insectoid alien priestess, survived until Jedi Padawan Dooku inadvertently caused their deaths on the planet Asusto. Around 1 BBY, Lieutenant Thom Hudd of the Rebel Alliance pilfered a Presager dagger while present on Hakotei.

History

Thom Hudd (pictured) stole a Presager dagger on Hakotei.

The Presagers of Hakotei, an organization that engaged in death magic and sacrificed countless individuals to glimpse visions of the future, had ties to the astronomical object Hakotei. It was widely believed that the Presagers had become extinct circa 82 BBY. However, one coven, headed by an insectoid alien priestess who was also a dark sider, secretly endured, eventually taking refuge on the planet Asusto. Around that year, the coven enticed Jedi Master Lene Kostana, her Jedi Padawan, Sifo-Dyas, and Dooku, then a Padawan, into a scheme to sacrifice them. However, Dooku inadvertently caused the Presagers' demise by using Force lightning after the ritual exposed him to a vision of the future.

Dooku later recorded these events in his journal. Around 23 BBY, during Asajj Ventress' investigation into the whereabouts of his sister Jenza, Dooku permitted his newly recruited Sith assassin to discover his journal. She then listened to the portion mentioning Hakotei. Thom Hudd, a Lieutenant in the Rebel Alliance and a former thief, absconded with a Presager dagger from Hakotei sometime before a secret mission led by Commander Lina Graf around 1 BBY. After Hudd became separated from Graf within the castle of the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader on Mustafar, the droid CR-8R reminded Graf of the lieutenant's theft on Hakotei, among other transgressions.

Behind the scenes

The first mention of Hakotei was in the audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, in the name of the Presagers of Hakotei. Cavan Scott wrote the audio drama, which was released on April 30, 2019. Its status as a distinct astronomical object, along with the confirmed spelling of its name, was established in the 2019 Free Comic Book Day edition of the 2017 Star Wars Adventures comic series. Scott also wrote this comic, which IDW Publishing published on May 4.
