HoloNet News
The HoloNet News (also known as HNN) functioned as a major news organization within the galaxy, disseminating information through the interstellar HoloNet network. HoloNet News provided services to various governing bodies across the galaxy, including the Galactic Republic, the Galactic Empire, and the New Republic.
History
Initially operating independently, HoloNet News was acquired by the Galactic Republic during the period of the Clone Wars. This acquisition was motivated by the need to safeguard information from being compromised by the opposing Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Following the conclusion of the Clone Wars, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine established the First Galactic Empire, transforming HoloNet News into the official state-controlled news outlet of his new government. To ensure consistency between the agency's reports and the government's official narrative, Pollux Hax, the Imperial Minister of Information and a member of the Coalition for Progress, was appointed to oversee its operations. A decree mandated that HoloNet News broadcasts be continuously played in every drinking establishment.
HoloNet News transmitted its reports via hyperspace technology, enabling near-instantaneous communication across the entire galaxy. Approximately five years prior to the Battle of Yavin, prominent news anchor Alton Kastle delivered broadcasts covering important events and daily news. Eris Harro served as the chief manager of the station in the Outer Rim Territories.
By the time of the Battle of Jakku, the New Republic, which succeeded the Alliance to Restore the Republic, had assumed control of HoloNet News. Faced with competition from other media outlets, HoloNet News prioritized the acquisition and dissemination of exclusive stories. Tracene Kane, formerly of the Queen of the Core Network, and Birt, a Sullustan, were among the known employees of HoloNet News. Chancellor Mon Mothma released a formal statement to HoloNet News concerning the discovery of Imperial forces on Jakku.
