John Costanza, a comic book letterer and illustrator, was born on August 14, 1943. His contributions to Star Wars include work on early issues of the Marvel Star Wars series, as well as Star Wars Annual (1977) 1. He began his career in comics during the 1960s at DC Comics, where he served as both letterer and illustrator on titles like G.I. Combat and House of Mystery. During the 1970s, Costanza started illustrating comics featuring cartoon characters from Warner Bros. for Western Publishing, and later for DC Comics; in the 1980s, he provided illustrations for several titles within Marvel's Star Comics line.
