Makrit, a male Ewok native to Endor, held the position of shaman for the tribe residing in Bright Tree Village. This Ewok community was under the leadership of Chief Buzza, with Logray learning the ways of the shaman as Makrit's apprentice. He once attempted to sacrifice young woklings from his own tribe as a blood offering to the Great Devourer, a massive Gorax residing near Mount Krana. However, Chirpa, Ra-Lee, and Logray uncovered Makrit's betrayal, freeing the woklings who were imprisoned within a colossal wicker cage shaped like an Ewok. Lacking his intended offerings, Makrit became a victim of his own scheme, as the Gorax consumed him instead. In subsequent years, the Ewoks immortalized the shaman's betrayal in song, forever branding him as "Makrit the Untrustworthy."
Makrit, a member of the small, furry Ewok race, originated from Endor, a temperate moon mostly covered in forests. This moon, sometimes called the "Forest Moon" or "Forest Moon of Endor," orbited a vital but uninhabitable gas giant bearing the same name. During his time, Makrit functioned as the shaman for the Ewok tribe inhabiting Bright Tree Village, which was situated hundreds of feet above ground within Endor's towering conifers. As a respected member of his community, he possessed the power of an artifact called the Sunstar, and he mentored Logray as his apprentice.
On one occasion, a gigantic Gorax went on a destructive rampage, notably causing devastation in a Dulok village, resulting in the deaths of all its inhabitants. Makrit began to worship this Gorax, naming it "the Great Devourer," and became convinced that the creature could be appeased through sacrifice. Consequently, he constructed a large wicker statue in the shape of an Ewok at the base of Mount Krana and began abducting woklings from his own tribe to fill it.
After some time, Chief Buzza, the leader of Bright Tree Village, grew concerned about the disappearances, suspecting the Duloks were responsible. However, Makrit used his powers to bewitch the chief, leading him to believe that the missing woklings had likely wandered off and become lost. Some younger members of the tribe, however, remained unconvinced. Buzza's son Chirpa, his friend Ra-Lee, and Makrit's own apprentice Logray decided to confront the Duloks on their own. Upon arriving at the Dulok camp, they discovered signs of destruction and a massive footprint, and were then attacked by a solitary Dulok who spoke of offerings to the Great One. Makrit, having followed Logray and his friends from the village, paralyzed the Dulok using the power of the Sunstar, allowing them to learn about the sacrifice while maintaining a facade of innocence.
Following the directions provided by the bewitched Dulok, the Ewoks journeyed to the sacrificial site near Mount Krana. When Chirpa and Ra-Lee entered the wicker statue to free the woklings, Makrit abandoned all pretense and locked them inside. Admitting his involvement in the kidnappings, the shaman insisted that the sacrifice was necessary. As the Great Devourer approached, Makrit stood in awe. However, Ra-Lee blew a horn, attracting a group of enraged borras. These creatures charged forward, shattering the wicker statue and freeing the prisoners. Makrit could only watch in dismay as Chirpa, Ra-Lee, Logray, and the woklings escaped on borraback. The shaman realized in horror that the sacrifice still needed to occur, and he was the only remaining Ewok present. The last thing he witnessed was the open, hungry maw of the Great Devourer.
Eventually, Logray, Makrit's former apprentice, assumed the role of shaman, a position he continued to hold by the time of the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. Meanwhile, the memory of Makrit's treachery was preserved in a song, the ballad of Makrit the Untrustworthy.
Makrit made his debut in the fourth installment of the 5-issue weekly comic book miniseries Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle.
