Gorax were a scarcely observed species of towering, quasi-sentient humanoids native to the mountains of Endor. On occasion, they would launch assaults on the settlements of the Ewoks, one of the moon's sapient inhabitants.

Reaching heights of up to 8.6 meters, the Gorax were humanoids of considerable size. Their ocher-toned skin was largely concealed by dense, tangled dark fur, with the exception of their faces, hands, and feet. The head featured a pair of forward-facing eyes shaded by thick brows, a mouth filled with pointed fangs, and narrow nostrils. Their limbs ended in four digits, including an opposable thumb, each capped with sharp nails. However, in his hand-drawn depiction of Endor, the Ithorian artist Gammit Chond portrayed a Gorax possessing three-fingered hands and feet with only two prominent toes. Their large, pointed ears granted them exceptional hearing acuity.
The Gorax possessed extraordinary strength, capable of effortlessly uprooting a sizable tree with both hands.
They preferred to live in mountainous regions, seldom revealing themselves. Despite their reputation for aggression, cruelty, and limited intelligence, they demonstrated the ability to employ objects as rudimentary tools, such as using a dislodged tree as a club. Furthermore, some individuals adorned themselves with basic clothing items, such as a sash fashioned from furs and skulls, or a simple belted loincloth.

The Gorax made their home on Endor, a wooded moon situated in the Outer Rim Territories, orbiting a planet of the same designation. It was theorized that they, along with the Phlogs, arrived on the moon following a crash that occurred millennia ago. Periodically, they would venture from their habitat to raid the villages of the sentient Ewoks, who also inhabited Endor. The Ewoks of Bright Tree Village maintained vigilant watchers in the forest canopy above their dwellings to watch for any approaching Gorax. In fact, the Ewoks constructed their villages high in the trees and developed a range of traps, catapults, and other substantial weaponry largely due to the threat of Gorax incursions.
During the reign of Chief Buzza over Bright Tree Village, a male Gorax established itself near Mount Krana. Makrit, who served as the village's shaman at that time, began to revere the giant, referring to him as the "Great Devourer." Makrit planned to offer kidnapped woklings as sacrifices to the Gorax, but ultimately became the giant's meal himself.
In 4 ABY, the Gorax traps originally set up by the Bright Tree Ewoks for defense were repurposed to disable the All Terrain Scout Transport vehicles used by the Galactic Empire during the Battle of Endor. Shortly after the battle concluded, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa assisted the Ewoks Kneesaa and Wicket in halting a marauding Gorax by reactivating those very traps.
Sometime after the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY, Ardis San Tekka, the Director of Creature Cartography, included an illustrated entry concerning the Gorax in her journal.

The Gorax were initially conceived for the Star Wars Legends television movie Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, which premiered in 1984 and featured a member of the species as a primary antagonist. The reference book Ultimate Star Wars, released in 2015, officially established the species as canon.
In "Survivors on Endor," a walker assault map featured in a DLC pack for the video game Star Wars Battlefront, players venture into a cavern filled with giant spiders and what seems to be the den of a massive creature, complete with an empty cage suspended from the ceiling, reminiscent of the Gorax lair depicted in Caravan of Courage. A similar cave system can be discovered within the map for the "Ewok Hunt" mode in Star Wars Battlefront II.
