Living in Bright Tree Village on the moon of Endor, Buzza was a male Ewok who held the position of chief for his tribe and was also the father of Chirpa. The Ewok known as Logray had heard tales from Buzza regarding a deity in Ewok lore referred to as the Golden One. Furthermore, Buzza once frightened both Chirpa and Logray by fabricating trails attributed to the Kroolok, a type of troll rumored to inhabit Endor.
In the year 1 BBY, after some woklings vanished from their sleeping places, Buzza discussed these disappearances with Makrit, the shaman who was secretly responsible. Ra-Lee, another Ewok, initially thought that Duloks had kidnapped the woklings, an idea Buzza initially shared. However, Makrit manipulated Buzza using the sunstar artifact. Subsequently, Logray, Chirpa, and Ra-Lee took it upon themselves to rescue the missing woklings, saving them from the Great Devourer, a Gorax that Makrit intended to sacrifice them to. Forty-two seasons prior to the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Chirpa took over as chief, succeeding his father. Buzza was remembered by others, including Chirpa and Logray, on numerous occasions.
As the father of Chirpa, Buzza was a male Ewok who acted as the chief for the Council of Elders of the tribe residing in Bright Tree Village located on the moon of Endor. He would share stories around a fire with the woklings about an Ewok deity called the Golden One. In these stories, Buzza would describe the Golden One's eyes as emitting a gentle and constant light, comparing them to stars plucked from the heavens. He also said that the Golden One could only perceive light and that darkness was defeated when the Golden One gazed upon it. These tales were heard by the Ewok Logray. On a separate occasion, when Chirpa and Logray secretly ventured out into the snow, Buzza attempted to scare them by leaving behind tracks of the Kroolok, a troll species believed to live on Endor.

In 1 BBY, Buzza engaged in a conversation with the shaman Makrit regarding the disappearance of woklings from their nests as they slept. Their discussion was interrupted by Chirpa and the Ewok Ra-Lee, who had returned from a hunting expedition targeting a boar-wolf. Chirpa attempted to share the success of their hunt with his father, but Buzza informed them that they were discussing serious matters, specifically the missing woklings. Ra-Lee suspected that Duloks were responsible for the disappearances, a sentiment initially shared by Buzza, who declared their intention to seek revenge against the Duloks. However, Makrit, who was secretly planning to sacrifice the woklings to a Gorax known as the Great Devourer, used the sunstar artifact on Buzza. This turned Buzza's eyes orange and influenced him to believe that the woklings had likely wandered off on their own. Ra-Lee expressed surprise at the chief's sudden agreement with the shaman, as Buzza typically did not take orders from Makrit. However, Chirpa reasoned that Makrit, being the shaman, possessed superior knowledge. Despite this, Logray convinced Chirpa and Ra-Lee to confront the Duloks that night.
Upon arriving at the Dulok camp, the three Ewoks discovered only a single Dulok attempting to sacrifice a wokling. Makrit, who had followed them, intervened using the sunstar and then apologized to Buzza, acknowledging that the chief had been correct in suspecting the Duloks. The Ewoks then journeyed to the Salma Sands at the base of Mount Krana, where the woklings were being held captive. There, Makrit betrayed Chirpa, attempting to sacrifice him to the Great Devourer, believing that the chief's son would be the ideal offering. However, Chirpa and the other Ewoks managed to escape and rescue the woklings, leaving Makrit to be eaten by the Gorax.

Around the time of 1 BBY, after a crew led by Rebel Alliance commander Lina Graf experienced a crash landing on the planet Mustafar during a fact-finding mission, the bodyguard droid XM-G3 made a reference to Buzza while recounting the story of Makrit's attempt to sacrifice the woklings to the rest of the crew. Forty-two seasons before the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Chirpa took over as chief, succeeding Buzza.
Sometime between 1 BBY and 4 ABY, when Chirpa's daughter Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka and her companions Wicket Wystri Warrick and Teebo secretly went out into the snow during winter, Chirpa and Logray—who had by then become a shaman—frightened them by creating Kroolok footprints and tail marks using snowshoes. After successfully executing the prank, Chirpa reminded Logray of a similar incident when his father had done the same to them, noting that Buzza had used the same technique to create the Kroolok's tail tracks. Logray grinned at the memory and admitted that it still gave him nightmares. In 4 ABY, when Logray observed the protocol droid C-3PO, he noticed that the droid's appearance matched the description of the Golden One from Buzza's stories, briefly leading the shaman to believe that C-3PO was the deity.
Buzza had brown hair and black eyes, identifying him as a male Ewok. He enjoyed scaring Chirpa and Logray by fabricating Kroolok tracks and did not follow orders from Makrit. The chief had a strong desire to avenge the woklings that they thought the Duloks were kidnapping.
Within the current Star Wars canon, Buzza's initial appearance was in flashbacks featured in the fourth issue of the 2018 comic series Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle. This issue was penned by Cavan Scott, illustrated by Derek Charm and Robert Hack, and released by IDW Publishing on October 24, 2018. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, a reference to Chirpa's father appeared in the eighth issue of the 1985 comic series Star Wars: Ewoks, which was written by Dave Manak and published by Marvel Comics on July 1, 1986.
