Mikdanyell Guh'rantt

Mikdanyell Guh'rantt, a male Rodian, held the position of mayor in Mos Eisley, situated on the Outer Rim planet of Tatooine. His tenure occurred during the opening years of the Galactic Civil War. This mayor had significant ties to the city's criminal element, a fact brought to light by Imperial Navy Chief Moradmin Bast. Despite this exposure, Guh'rantt remained in office following Bast's death at the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY. During this time, Guh'rantt actively tried to improve Mos Eisley's image, working to strengthen the police force and combat crime with limited resources. He also collaborated with a spacer, awarding them a Key to the City for revealing Jabba Desilijic Tiure's scheme to incite Tusken Raider attacks on Mos Eisley. Beyond city protection, Guh'rantt showed interest in the planet's history, though his understanding contained inaccuracies.

Biography

Mayoral dealings

Mikdanyell Guh'rantt, a male Rodian involved in politics, took pride in his knowledge of the history of Tatooine, a desert planet located in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. He assumed the role of mayor in Mos Eisley, a major spaceport city on Tatooine, sometime before 0 BBY. As mayor, he operated from the city's commerce guild hall, the center for Mos Eisley's local government. Mos Eisley was known for its high crime rate, and Guh'rantt was involved in this underworld. Imperial Chief Moradmin Bast eventually exposed Mayor Guh'rantt's connections to the criminal element. However, the Human Imperial officer met his death during the Battle of Yavin when Rebel pilots destroyed the Death Star he was aboard. Despite the revelation of his corruption, Guh'rantt continued his mayoral duties after the Battle of Yavin. Around that period, Crix Yarrow served as his aide.

Guh'rantt, a friendly character, was always keen to promote his city and showcase his supposed knowledge of Tatooine's history to visiting spacers. He regarded Mos Eisley as a vibrant city and resented its reputation as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy," arguing that its streets were no more dangerous than those of other cities. While knowledgeable, Guh'rantt held some historical inaccuracies about Tatooine. He doubted the story of a Jedi Knight slicing off the arm of an Aqualish in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina with a lightsaber, believing Jedi Knights were long gone and wouldn't be in a cantina on Tatooine. However, the story was true; Obi-Wan Kenobi had indeed attacked the Aqualish criminal Ponda Baba. Guh'rantt also confused the Dim-U monks with the B'omarr Monks, incorrectly stating that the Dim-U removed their brains for enlightenment and placed them in BT-16 perimeter droids, and that the Dim-U used Jabba's Palace as a monastery, when it was the B'omarr. He correctly noted that the Dim-U worshiped banthas.

Key to the city

Besides sharing his city's pride and knowledge, Mayor Guh'rantt helped spacers find suitable work. One spacer was referred to him by Trehla Keelo, a Mos Eisley citizen who guided visitors. During their meeting at the commerce guild hall, Guh'rantt asked the spacer to consult with several Mos Eisley residents to determine a suitable profession. These included the entertainer Anetia Kah'ryn, the artisan Alduq Besene, the soldier Purvis Arrison, and the scout Entha Kandela. Another was Peawp R'dawc, a Zabrak who owned a bodyguard agency. R'dawc, skilled in hand-to-hand combat, wanted to see if the spacer was suited to be a brawler. The spacer worked bodyguard jobs for R'dawc, including protecting Otwi Opawl, a Bith businessman.

Debt to Jabba

In 1 ABY, Guh'rantt found himself indebted to Jabba Desilijic Tiure, the Hutt crime lord who controlled a large criminal empire from Tatooine. Jabba devised a plan to manipulate the Tusken Raiders into attacking Mos Eisley as retaliation for late payments. Bossk, a Trandoshan bounty hunter working for Jabba, hired a spacer to attack Tuskens near Mos Eisley, making it appear as though the Mos Eisley militia was responsible. Although a Tusken discovered the truth, the spacer assassinated him, and Jabba's plan succeeded.

Meanwhile, Guh'rantt planned to use a speeder deed for his next payment, but it was stolen. However, Bib Fortuna, the Twi'lek majordomo, saw a spacer as a potential servant for Jabba. Bib Fortuna instructed this spacer to help the mayor find a way to repay Jabba. The spacer agreed and met with Guh'rantt at the Mos Eisley commerce guild hall. Guh'rantt explained his debt and the stolen speeder deed, adding that he couldn't embezzle public funds due to the city's existing problems. However, he believed that the spacer could free up enough funds to repay Jabba by performing some public services. The spacer agreed, hoping to gain favor with Bib Fortuna and Jabba.

The spacer's tasks included animal control, eliminating hoodlums, and managing Tusken Raider attacks. The spacer worked with key city officials like the Twi'lek animal control officer Entha Kandela, Human veteran marksman Purvis Arrison, and Peawp R'dawc. Most officials were cynical about the mayor's funding reluctance but accepted the spacer's help.

Working with Entha Kandela, the spacer conducted a census of the vermin infestation threatening public health. The situation was hazardous; womp rats spread grunge fever, kreetles weakened the soil, tempest rills chewed cables, and rockmites laid eggs everywhere. The spacer helped Kandela by killing creatures and extracting samples.

Working with Peawp R'dawc, the spacer oversaw the elimination of desert swoopers, moisture thieves, gunrunners, and B1-Series battle droids that crashed in a Class-6 escape pod. The most important mission was eliminating Vaigon Shinn, a dangerous Nikto criminal operating from a bunker outside the city. The spacer attacked the bunker, killing the guards and Shinn, the gang's chief mugger. R'dawc was pleased but regretted the mayor's lack of budget to hire the spacer full time.

Purvis Arrison believed Mos Eisley was at war with the Tusken Raiders. While an exaggeration, Tuskens were gathering in Junktown. Arrison tasked the spacer with scouting the village and then fighting the Tuskens, killing at least fifteen and improving Mos Eisley's safety.

Meanwhile, the Twi'lek entertainer Anetia Kah'ryn discovered Jabba's involvement in the Tusken Raider attacks. Mayor Guh'rantt was interested, though not surprised, to learn of Jabba's manipulation. However, thanks to the spacer, Guh'rantt had the funds to make his next payment to Jabba. The mayor was also pleased that eliminating criminal elements reduced complaints from the townsfolk and hoped that helping Entha Kandela would keep her off his back.

Keeping the peace

Later, Guh'rantt collaborated with Queen Kylantha of Naboo and other planetary governors to establish a warden program to address noise complaints caused by unscrupulous merchants.
