A quest was launched in 35 ABY by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, accompanied by a unit of First Order stormtroopers, to retrieve a Sith wayfinder from Vader's Fortress situated on the world of Mustafar.

Following a menacing broadcast threatening vengeance from the long-dead Darth Sidious in 35 ABY, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren immediately directed his endeavors toward quashing what he saw as a threat to his recently acquired authority. Guided by the teachings of his prior mentor Snoke concerning the mysterious knowledge of the Sith faith, Ren's strategy focused on journeying to the blazing planet of Mustafar, with hopes of discovering relics to help in his search for the fabled planet Exegol, the hidden Sith world.

The charred planet was visited by Supreme Leader Ren in the company of both General Armitage Hux and Galactic Civil War veteran Allegiant General Enric Pryde, who were present to observe Kylo Ren's assault while pondering the substance of Palpatine's supposed message.
Once on the surface at Corvax Fen, Kylo Ren and a detachment of stormtroopers confronted the Alazmec of Winsit, a devoted group of Sith cultists who venerated Ren's grandfather, the disgraced Sith Lord Darth Vader. The Alazmec sought to defend the castle grounds of Fortress Vader from the First Order's invasion, but they were no match for the Supreme Leader and his elite forces. Driven by fury and resolve, Ren slaughtered the Alazmec cultists in his way, eventually eliminating the entire group that stood before him and his entourage.
Ren proceeded on his own and encountered the Eye of Webbish Bog. Ren attempted to use mind control on the symbiotic entity, but it was resistant. The Eye then directed the Supreme Leader toward Vader's Sith wayfinder.

Ren discovered the Sith relic, and charted a path for its location—Exegol—onboard his TIE/wi interceptor, aiming to finalize his objective to destroy Sidious and secure his position as the galaxy's only leader.
The Mustafar mission first materialized in the 2019 motion picture Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the third and concluding chapter of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Originally, Armitage Hux and Enric Pryde went with Kylo Ren to acquire the wayfinder. Although their actors, Domhnall Gleeson and Richard E. Grant filmed the scene, it was removed from the finished product. The novelization of the movie, however, contained this scene.
