Morak Imperial remnants

The Morak Imperial Remnant forces comprised a faction of Imperial Remnants that were based on the planet of Morak around 9 ABY. They were running a clandestine refinery whose purpose was to refine rhydonium, a precious but unstable fuel source utilized in starships. Their operations came to an end when Din Djarin, along with a diverse group of skilled fighters including Boba Fett and Carasynthia Dune, infiltrated the refinery with the intention of discovering the whereabouts of an Imperial remnant group under the command of Moff Gideon. During the subsequent conflict, Migs Mayfeld, a former Imperial sharpshooter, utilized Boba Fett's cycler rifle to obliterate an HCVw A9.2 juggernaut transport filled with unrefined rhydonium, triggering a chain reaction that inflicted significant damage upon the facility.

Description

The secret Imperial refinery

On the planet of Morak, specifically within its jungle regions, a group of Imperial remnants maintained a clandestine rhydonium refining facility. Their military strength included a minimum of one platoon. Their forces included a variety of personnel, such as stormtroopers, shoretroopers, Juggernaut Pilots, Imperial weapons technicians, and Imperial officers. Regarding vehicle support, they possessed at least two TIE fighters and at least four HCVw A9.2 juggernaut transports. The juggernauts were used to move rhydonium shipments to the refinery. The command structure involved several officers, notably Valin Hess, a veteran who participated in Operation: Cinder on the planet Burnin Konn. Hess expressed that the refined rhydonium would be used by the remnants to cause widespread destruction throughout the galaxy, with the expectation that such devastation would pave the way for the resurgence of the Galactic Empire. Former members of the Imperial Security Bureau were in charge of running the facility.

History

Morak remnant stormtroopers rush out to defend the refinery against pirates.

These remnant groups were active by 9 ABY, operating on the forested world of Morak. They were centered around a covert mining operation and refinery that processed rhydonium. Rhydonium is a fuel source for starships that is highly unstable when unrefined. After elements of Moff Gideon's Imperial remnant took Grogu captive, Din Djarin sought assistance from New Republic Marshal Carasynthia Dune, bounty hunters Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, and the former Imperial sharpshooter Migs Mayfeld to help him locate and rescue the child from Gideon. Mayfeld guided the group to Morak, explaining that access to an internal Imperial terminal was required to pinpoint the location of Gideon's fleet. Mayfeld and Djarin hijacked an Imperial Combat Assault Transport, known as Juggernaut Five, that was transporting rhydonium. Despite an assault by the Shydopp pirates, they successfully drove the transport to the refinery, where they were greeted as heroes.

Once inside the base, Djarin successfully used the terminal to find the location of Gideon's fleet, but was interrupted by Valin Hess, a former commanding officer of Mayfeld. Hess congratulated the disguised infiltrators and offered them a drink. Mayfeld then confronted Hess about the loss of the latter's division during Operation: Cinder. Hess responded that the lives lost were for a worthy cause—the Empire. Shocked by this answer, Mayfeld revealed his true intentions, shooting and killing Hess. The pair were then forced to fight their way out of the facility, with Dune and Fennec providing cover fire with their sniper rifles. Djarin and Mayfeld managed to escape in Slave I, which was piloted by Fett. As Slave I departed from the facility, Mayfeld used Fett's cycler rifle to target and destroy one of the Assault Transports, which detonated its rhydonium cargo, causing significant damage to the base. Two TIE fighters tried to shoot down Slave I, but Fett deployed a seismic charge, destroying them.
