Blue macaron
On the planet Nevarro, one could find blue macarons, a kind of cookie that was safe to eat for both humans and members of Grogu's species. In the year 9 ABY, a young boy was enjoying these cookies during a lesson, but the foundling Grogu stole and consumed some of them. As the Mandalorian Din Djarin picked up Grogu, the foundling continued to eat the macarons, only to later throw them up when Djarin's gunship, the Razor Crest, was flown in a way that made him sick.
History

Back in 9 ABY, a male student on the world of Nevarro, located in the Outer Rim, was being taught by a protocol droid and ate a package of the cookies during the class. Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, needed a place for his foundling, Grogu, while he went on a mission, so he left Grogu in the classroom where the student was learning. Grogu, who was sitting next to the student, held out his hand and made noises as if he wanted a cookie, as the young foundling was more interested in the treat than the droid's lesson. Even though the student wouldn't share and kept eating his snack, Grogu used the Force to move the entire package of macarons to his own desk, much to the student's surprise. After that, he began to eat the macarons with joy, having discovered that he liked them.
When Djarin came back to leave Nevarro with Grogu, the youngling took the remaining cookies with him and kept snacking on them as the Mandalorian fought three Outland TIE fighters on board his gunship, the Razor Crest. Grogu was holding the macarons over his head during the fight. After the TIE fighters' were destroyed, he threw up some of the cookies on his robe because he was sick from Djarin's piloting. Djarin quickly and unsuccessfully tried to clean up the blue vomit with a cloth, referring to the event as "onboard maintenance" over the comlink to Marshal Carasynthia Dune and Magistrate Greef Karga. Djarin and Karga had been talking about what they owed each other, and Karga offered to pay him back with a drink, but the Mandalorian turned it down, saying he needed to clean up Grogu's mess. As he flew away from Nevarro, Djarin took the last macaron from Grogu, but the youngling didn't care because he wasn't hungry anymore. Later, Grogu ate a blue macaron, as well as a bowl of soup and an arges frog.
In 34 ABY, the Halcyon, a MPO-1400 Purgill-class star cruiser, had blue macarons on board. They were served as dessert at dinner at the captain's table in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. Eventually, they were replaced by a different dessert.
Behind the scenes

Blue macarons first made their debut in "Chapter 12: The Siege," which was the fourth episode of the second season of the live-action series The Mandalorian. It was broadcast on November 19, 2020. The episode's credits showed concept art for the cookies, and a high-quality version was shown in the episode guide the following Monday. The concept image, which was made by Christian Alzmann, showed a beige cookie, but the final product was blue. The cookies were first named in "Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season Two Companion," an article written by Kristin Baver that was published in the 202nd issue of the magazine Star Wars Insider on April 27, 2021. The children's book The Mandalorian and Child, which is not canon and was released in 2023, has blue macarons in a scene where Djarin and Grogu are on board the Razor's Crest.
Jon Favreau, the show's creator, later made an appearance on the YouTube cooking show Binging with Babish, where Andrew Rea, the host, made the cookies from the show. Favreau said that Josh Roth, the property master, talked about what the cookies would look like for the episode. Favreau wanted the cookies to be blue to pay tribute to the blue milk from the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope from 1977. Roth ended up baking macarons for the show, but he only used half of the full cookie instead of a traditional sandwiched macaron. Favreau said that the flavor was like blue raspberry. Williams-Sonoma later sold an officially licensed product called "Nevarro Nummies" online (Williams-Sonoma).
The out-of-universe recipe for blue macarons, which was revealed in a StarWars.com article, called for almond flour, confectioners' sugar, salt, egg whites, sugar, vanilla, and blue food dye for the cookie. The filling needs butter, confectioners' cream, heavy cream, vanilla, food dye, and raspberry jam. The cookies were also available for guests at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel in Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, which opened to the public on March 1, 2022.
