Arges frog

The arges frog, also known as Sorgan frogs, represented a species of frogs that possessed a single eye. These creatures were named after the forest planet of Sorgan, although their presence extended to various other planets. The Mandalorian foundling, Grogu, displayed a strong preference for these amphibians, frequently attempting to hunt them during his travels across the galaxy. Circa 9 ABY, the child consumed a Sorgan frog while on an Arvala-7 moisture farm. Later, during a visit to a village on the planet for which the species was named, he tried to repeat this act. However, Grogu stopped when the girl Winta and other children displayed reactions of disgust, allowing the frog to flee into a nearby water trough.

In that same year, on Tatooine, several Sorgan frogs were subjected to being boiled alive, in preparation as a meal for Daimyo Bib Fortuna at his palace, prepared by an EV-series sous-chef. These amphibians managed to escape, however, when the former bounty hunter Boba Fett pursued an LEP-series ratcatcher through the palace's kitchen. At a later time, Grogu departed from his caretaker, Din Djarin, to study the principles of the Force under the guidance of Luke Skywalker. While in meditation with his Jedi Master on Ossus, Grogu employed his Force powers to extract a Sorgan frog from a nearby pond. In an effort to demonstrate to his Padawan the true potential of these powers, Skywalker effortlessly levitated numerous frogs from the pond before gently returning them to their aquatic habitat.

Behind the scenes

The Sorgan frog's first appearance

The initial appearance of Sorgan frogs occurred in "Chapter 2: The Child," which is an episode belonging to the first season of The Mandalorian, a television series created by Jon Favreau. Rick Famuyiwa directed the episode, which was broadcast on Disney+ on November 15, 2019. Subsequently, on December 23 of that same year, these creatures were officially identified as Sorgan frogs in an article published on StarWars.com that provided details about merchandise related to the show. The article revealed that a frog figurine would be included as an accessory for Grogu, who was then referred to as "the Child," as part of the Star Wars: The Black Series toyline.
