The Oktos sector, a sector found in the Mid Rim, was situated within the Slice region. It served as a boundary between the Mid Rim and Hutt Space. Within this sector were the Dakaret, Mhalanduin, Nirellia, Ord Wylan, and Ruloosia systems. The Gamor Run hyperlane also traversed this area. Two species native to the Oktos sector were the Nirellian ground-slug and the Ruloosian sand-snake.
Lando Calrissian, a gambler, briefly held the license rights to a taxi service on the world of Ord Wylan after winning them in a sabacc game, as of 36:1:16. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, the invaders from an extragalactic origin attacked the Lannik system in the nearby Lannik Space after advancing along the Gamor Run's segment within the Oktos sector. Later, during the Second Galactic Civil War, the Hutts dispatched a fleet along the same Gamor Run segment to support their Confederation allies against the Galactic Alliance.
The Oktos sector was situated within the Mid Rim's Slice region. Around 0 ABY, it bordered the Esaga sector on its spinward side, as well as the Hune and Daalang sectors towards the Coreward direction. Furthermore, the sector shared its trailing border with Lannik Space and defined the Rimward boundary between the Mid Rim and Hutt Space.
The Nirellia system was located in the northwestern part of the Oktos sector. The Dakaret system occupied the sector's western region, while the Mhalanduin, Ruloosia, and Ord Wylan systems were situated in the southeastern area.

The Gamor Run hyperlane passed through the Oktos sector's southernmost area, near its Lannik Space border. This hyperspace route connected the sector to the Daalang system in the sector of the same name, and the Circumtore system within Hutt Space.
The Oktos sector derived its name from the Oktos Nebula, a nebulosity in Hutt Space close to the Mid Rim border. The Oktos Route, a hyperlane that skirted the Oktos Nebula before entering the Mid Rim, and the Oktos Zone Imperial Outpost, a Galactic Empire military installation on the Hutt Space planet Toydaria, also shared the name.
During their invasion of the galaxy between 26 ABY and 27 ABY, the Yuuzhan Vong, extragalactic in origin, advanced along the Gamor Run after conquering the Circumtore system. They then proceeded along the Bothan Run hyperlane after passing through the previously-captured Daalang system, to attack the Lannik system located in Lannik Space.
In 40 ABY, when the Second Galactic Civil War began, the Hutts dispatched a fleet to assist the Confederation in their conflict against the Galactic Alliance in the galaxy's Coreward regions. This fleet, originating from Nal Hutta in Hutt Space, utilized the Gamor Run segment connecting the Circumtore and Daalang systems before transitioning to the Trax Tube route.

The Nirellian ground-slugs were native to the Nirellia system. The Dakaret system shared its name with the holo-vid Denizens of Dakaret IX, while the Mhalanduin Reformation, an event that occurred by 0 BBY, shared its name with the Mhalanduin system. The Ruloosian sand-snakes inhabited the Ruloosia system, and the Ord Wylan system contained a world bearing the same name.
Despite its location just outside the borders of Republic space, Ord Wylan served as an Ordnance/Regional Depot outpost for the Galactic Republic during the Pius Dea Era, a time period lasting from 12,000 BBY to 11,000 BBY. Millennia afterward, by the date of 36:1:16, the license rights for a taxi service on Ord Wylan were highly coveted. At that time, Lando Calrissian, a gambler, won these rights in a sabacc game, only to lose them shortly after in a wager concerning the brand of liquor the players were drinking.
The Oktos sector was initially established in the StarWars.com Online Companion that supplemented the 2009 reference book, The Essential Atlas. Jason Fry, the co-author of The Essential Atlas, verified on the Jedi Council Forums of TheForce.net that the sector's name originated from the Oktos Nebula. In 2012, a map by Modi featured the Oktos sector, and was published in the Online Companion feature Essential Atlas Extra: Sectors of the Mid Rim.
