A Rodian Splice was a type of alcoholic drink concocted using a variety of dangerous ingredients. The components had to be combined in very specific amounts to ensure the mixture wasn't deadly for most sentient beings. The human male smuggler, Han Solo, was fond of the concoction and frequently requested it. However, Strono Tuggs, the Artiodac cook, hesitated to both make and imbibe the drink, even though he included the recipe in The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.
Rodian Splices were alcoholic drinks formulated with several toxic components. If the beverage was not prepared with the correct ratios of poisonous substances, it could be fatal for consumption by most species. For example, both Artiodacs and humans could only safely consume the drink if the ingredients were mixed precisely. Despite the potential danger, this highly intoxicating drink with its intense flavor was enjoyed by many. The final product could be a single color, like green or orange, or it could feature layers of black, white, and orange. The name of the drink shares a connection with the planet Rodia and the Rodian people who originate there.

The human male smuggler Han Solo enjoyed this drink, but he often struggled to find a bar that could make one to his liking. Sometime between 1 ABY and 3 ABY, Solo attempted to order a Rodian Splice at a bar in Barnahof, located in the Outer Rim, but he was unable to drink it due to the arrival of a stormtrooper squad. The Galactic Empire was actively searching for Solo and his Rebel Alliance allies, Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker, after the trio went into hiding following the Battle of Mako-Ta. Solo abandoned his drink order as he and his companions fled from the Imperials.
When the group sought shelter at Thane Markona's residence on the secluded moon Hubin, MK-1, the Thane's butler droid, served them beverages while they waited on the estate grounds for a meeting with Markona. At Solo's request, the droid prepared a large batch of Rodian Splice, but he substituted some of the toxic ingredients to ensure the drink was safe for human consumption. Solo was content to relax and enjoy his beverage, but Skywalker was growing impatient and refused Solo's offer of the cocktail.
Rodian Splices were available at Sennifer's Beam and Balance, a bar on Boxer Point Station within the Janx system, in 21 ABY. During a meeting with the assassin Ochi of Bestoon, the alien mercenary Cerensco consumed a shot of Rodian Splice in one swallow.
In 34 ABY, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs released his recipe collection, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which contained a recipe for the cocktail along with several warnings about the dangers it posed. He described the drink as something that desperate smugglers, looking to prove something, would order. Despite the cookbook being a compilation of his favorite recipes, Tuggs admitted his personal fear of both preparing and drinking the powerful and potentially deadly Rodian Splice.

Rodian Splices were first introduced in the fifty-sixth edition of the Star Wars comic series, published by Marvel Comics on November 7, 2018. The issue was written by Kieron Gillen and illustrated by Andrea Broccardo. In that issue, the drink's appearance was hidden by a container. However, in the following fifty-seventh edition, released on November 21 and written by Gillen with art by Angel Unzueta, the beverage was shown to be green.
The 2019 cookbook, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, authored by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak, includes a recipe for this cocktail. The recipe involves pouring equal parts of coffee liqueur, Irish cream liqueur, and either bourbon or whiskey into a glass in that sequence to create a three-layered layered drink.
