Search for Mandalore's Mask

In 3954 BBY, the surviving Mandalorian clans, remnants from the Mandalorian Wars, converged on the planet Rekkiad. Their objective: a quest to locate Mandalore's Mask, the ancient ceremonial war mask. Revan, a Jedi Master, and Canderous Ordo, a Mandalorian mercenary, traveled to Rekkiad, joining Clan Ordo in this endeavor. In pursuit of the mask, Revan guided the clan into Clan Jendri's territory, pinpointing its location to one of the Twin Spears, towering ice columns, each several kilometers high, topped with flat plateaus. Ascending the spear, Revan and Ordo discovered the secret chamber and the tomb of the Sith Lord Dramath the Second, finding the mask within Dramath's sarcophagus.

Soon after the mask was found, Veela Ordo, Ordo's wife, along with five Mandalorians, ambushed Ordo and Revan. The following day, Revan revealed the true origins of the Mandalorian Wars to Ordo, requesting that he remain behind to safeguard the Mandalorians and the Republic from the Sith threat.

Prelude

Mandalore's Mask

Back in 3960 BBY, Revan and Malak, then Jedi Knights, concealed Mandalore's Mask, the ancient ceremonial war mask, inside the tomb of Dramath the Second, a Sith Lord, located on the Outer Rim planet of Rekkiad. Six years subsequently, the remaining Mandalorian clans—survivors of their war against the Galactic Republic—assembled on Rekkiad, seeking the Mask, which they considered the key to their honor and power. The redeemed Jedi Master Revan, using the alias Avner, and Canderous Ordo, a Mandalorian mercenary, made their way to Rekkiad to assist Clan Ordo in their search.

Skirmish for Clan Jendri's territory

During this search, Revan—guided by the memory of his and Malak's last presence on Rekkiad—convinced Clan Ordo to venture into Clan Jendri's territory to find the mask. After establishing a camp, they were attacked the following morning. Jendri's forces, outnumbering Clan Ordo two to one, attacked the campsite, while their Basilisk war droid pilots bombarded the battlefield from above, suppressing the invaders. Veela Ordo, Canderous' wife, led her clan in the conflict, while Revan discerned Clan Jendri's strategy and created a diversion using his lightsaber to target the Jendri's Basilisks. This diversion enabled six Clan Ordo pilots, including Canderous, to safely reach their own Basilisk mounts. Revan managed to damage a Basilisk of Jendri and slew the pilot when he returned to attack the Jedi Master. During this distraction, Canderous and five other pilots of Clan Ordo launched their Basilisks into the air and began attacking the remaining Jendri pilots. Quickly realizing their disadvantage, the remaining Jendri pilots retreated from the battlefield, turning the battle into a rout. Soon after, some of the remaining Jendri troops broke formation, and those who remained were slaughtered by Clan Ordo.

Clan Ordo celebrated their victory late into the night, constructing a funeral pyre for the fallen, honoring their memories with songs and a feast, and mourning their lost comrades. The following day, Revan—guided by another memory—narrowed the mask's location to one of the Twin Spears, a pair of ice columns, each several kilometers tall, topped with flat plateaus.

Skirmish in Dramath the Second's tomb

After climbing the spear and reaching the summit, Revan and Ordo discovered the entrance to the secret chamber and the tomb of the Sith Lord Dramath the Second, which they investigated. Inside Dramath's sarcophagus, they found Mandalore's Mask. Shortly after finding the mask, Veela Ordo, Ordo's wife, and five Mandalorians ambushed him and Revan. Veela revealed her knowledge of Revan's identity and implored Ordo to break his loyalty to Revan and reclaim his position in Clan Ordo as their leader, and his rightful place at her side. Ordo stated that he could not betray Revan and pleaded with Veela and the others to stand down. With neither side relenting, Veela and her Mandalorians opened fire on Revan and Ordo. Left with no alternative, Ordo and Revan fought for their lives. After a brief firefight, Revan and Ordo were forced to kill Veela and the five other Mandalorians.

Aftermath

Future Mandalore Canderous Ordo

The day following the mask's discovery, Revan explained to Ordo the true origins of the Mandalorian Wars, revealing how an emissary from the hidden Sith Empire manipulated Mandalore the Ultimate into launching an invasion of the Galactic Republic. After sharing this account, Revan admitted that he did not know the identity of the Sith or their ultimate goal, but he was certain that the Sith knew the Mandalorian invasion was doomed to fail and that the war would devastate the warriors. Ordo speculated that if the Sith were planning another invasion, they would have to pass through Mandalorian space first, and that the Sith were seeking to eliminate the Mandalorians. Revan agreed that this was a possibility but also suggested that the Sith might have been attempting to corrupt the Mandalorians' beliefs and culture, hoping to recruit them. Revan then requested that Ordo stay behind, become the new leader of the Mandalorians, and protect both the remaining Mandalorians and the Republic from the Sith threat. After listening to Revan, Ordo donned the mask, declared himself Mandalore the Preserver, and vowed to restore honor and glory to his people.
