T'Bar Ricair, identified as a woman, initially pursued a career as a smuggler. Her path took a dramatic turn after a pivotal meeting with Vi Moradi at Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu, leading her to align herself with the Resistance in their struggle against the First Order.
During T'Bar Ricair's childhood, her parents were employed as contractors for major corporations involved in the extensive renovation of space station facilities. This work provided them with financial stability, but it also meant they had limited time to spend with their daughter. However, between assignments, they would occasionally take her for brief respites to Black Spire Outpost located on Batuu. There, Ricair's father was known to frequent Oga Garra's Cantina, while her mother would share tales of the planet, with many focusing on the long-gone Jedi Order.
As time passed, Ricair matured and eventually became a smuggler. Around the time of the Hosnian Cataclysm in 34 ABY, she had been part of a smuggling operation for a number of months. Upon receiving the news about the Cataclysm through the HoloNet, Ricair made the decision to leave the crew and seek a safe place to lie low until the conflict between the New Republic and the First Order subsided.
With fond memories of her childhood vacations, Ricair chose to make a stop at Blackspire Outpost. There, she visited her mother's cherished petrified tree, which her mother claimed held a cave where Jedi Padawans of the past would go to confront their deepest fears through the Force. She then went to Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, where she splurged on the acquisition of a Jedi holocron along with a purple kyber crystal. While walking past Docking Bay 7, Ricair spotted a YT-1300 light freighter, which she briefly wondered if it was the legendary Millennium Falcon—although she quickly dismissed it as being more likely one of many imitations.
Following the advice of a helpful local, she then set out towards the Milk Stand. However, her progress was interrupted by a group of First Order stormtroopers who were actively searching for members of the Resistance. After they eventually allowed her to proceed, Ricair enjoyed a blue milk at the stand, and the vendor informed her that the YT-1300 was indeed the Millennium Falcon, and that its famed co-pilot, the Wookiee Chewbacca, had been sighted.
While strolling through the shopping area, Ricair noticed a woman wearing an orange flight jacket who was attempting to blend into the shadows. Suspecting that she was affiliated with the Resistance, Ricair chose to assist her rather than report her to the First Order. Ricair positioned herself between the woman and an approaching stormtrooper, effectively obstructing the soldier's view. Before heading towards the forest on the outskirts of the outpost, the enigmatic woman gave her a knowing look, an implicit invitation to follow. Hesitating, the smuggler paused.
Subsequently, Ricair learned about the terrible acts committed by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren of the First Order during his visit to Batuu, which ultimately motivated her to join the Resistance.
T'Bar Ricair made her debut appearance in "Life on the Edge," a short story penned by Tricia Barr and published in Star Wars Insider 192 in 2019. The story details Barr's experience visiting the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park in Anaheim, California, as seen through the eyes of Ricair, a character she created specifically for the visit. Ricair's name is, in fact, an anagram of Barr's own name.
