Synopsis of the Plot

Chapter 3: Into the Lair

Ty Yorrick employs her sonic cutter to burn a pathway through withered plants as Drewen Qweebjillan observes, but when he inquires about using it next, she declines. Further, he asks if she possesses any gadgets he might utilize, but her response remains the same. Drewen attempts to apologize for the previous evening. Ty dismisses the need for discussion, but Drewen disagrees, mentioning the girl who fell, as he believes Ty could have done something. Turning sharply, Ty retorts that she already stated that, causing Drewen to retreat. As they ascend, Ty mutters that things were already difficult enough with KL-03 chattering in her ear. Drewen suggests that Ty's droid appears wise, but Ty snaps that Kayel is merely a machine and tool fortunately out of range.

A misstep nearly causes Ty to plummet to her death when a layer of snow gives way, but she uses the prongs on the hilt of her lightsaber to secure herself, embedding the weapon into the mountainside, assuring Drewen she's alright and to avoid creating drama. Ty instructs Drewen to offer his hand, explaining she needs to assist him across the gap. Drewen expresses concern about the supplies and questions if Ty could simply use the Force to float him over, but Ty yells at him to obey her instructions before tossing him across the divide. Upon reaching the other side, Drewen complains that she didn't need to throw him so forcefully, prompting her sarcastic remark, "You're welcome." Soon after, the pair discovers a bone-filled cave, which Ty identifies as the Gretalax's lair. Drewen notes the darkness within, and, activating her lightsaber, Ty replies that they usually are. In the past, Jedi Padawan Tylera recites the mantra "There is no fear, only certainty" as she explores the Yallow Shrine with her friend Klias Teradine, who urges her to stop while declaring he doesn't understand her "problem." Tylera expresses their unsuitability for being there, asking Klias if he can't sense the dark side of the Force surrounding them. Klias disagrees, asserting that they are surrounded by treasures and knowledge, pointing out a Yallow soothsaber before discovering a vitalicron. Awestruck, Klias informs Tylera that it supposedly contains the memories of a Yallow cultist, but as he contemplates returning it to the Jedi temple, Tylera interrupts him. She argues that examining the artifacts is acceptable, but theft is not: the artifacts belong to another culture, and stealing them would be wrong, especially since the objects are also incredibly dangerous. Klias accuses Tylera of being a ferbil, but Tylera denies it, worrying about the Jedi Masters' reaction, to which Klias replies that they will be ecstatic upon seeing their discoveries. The genetic seal on the vitalicron unexpectedly unlocks, startling Klias, and he screams as something from within the artifact overwhelms him, causing him to fall to the floor and drop the device. Tylera asks what's wrong, and he turns and yells for her to flee. In the present, Drewen inquires if Ty's lightsaber has a brightness setting. Sighing, she hands him a light, and he asks if she has anything else, like a spare blaster, to accompany it for self-defense. Ty replies that he might not need it if he stops talking, explaining that the primary rule of monster hunting is silence. Behind them, a monstrous figure emerges from the darkness. Ty spins around just in time, positioning herself between Drewen and the Gretalax while ordering him to retreat. She tackles Drewen out of the way, urging him to move. As Ty leaps to attack the beast with her hands and feet, Drewen grumbles about his desire for a weapon. Finding a rock, Drewen hurls it at the "hairy monstrosity" while shouting at it. The rock strikes Ty instead, and she scolds Drewen for helping, before activating her lightsaber and noting the potential issue with the Gretalax's horns. As the Gretalax charges, she grabs onto one of its horns while asking it to calm down, stating as she vaults onto its back that she doesn't want to hurt it — yet.

Drewen rummages through Ty's pack, hoping to find something useful. He is interrupted by a whimper, leading him to discover Pela alive, but bound in Rock Weaver webs. Realizing the girl is severely injured, Drewen assures her he'll free her. Elsewhere, the Gretalax throws Ty off its back, causing her to lose her lightsaber. Ty frantically searches for it, only to find it near the creature. As the Gretalax attacks, Ty encourages herself as she attempts to pull the weapon to her, noting the unusual difficulty. The weapon moves, but rocks fall from the cave ceiling, forcing Ty to shift her focus to protecting herself from the cave-in. Awakening amidst the rubble, Ty grumbles about the Force before realizing the beast is also trapped. Hearing noises, she assumes it's Drewen and remarks on his newfound usefulness. However, upon investigating, she finds Rock Weavers instead. Suddenly, the Segredo appears with Ty's lightsaber, brandishing it at the spiders. Ty questions his actions, and he replies that it's obvious, adding that they have the girl from the village trussed up like a swamp turkey. Ty is surprised to learn the girl is alive, and Drewen vows not to let the same fate befall her. Yelling for him to stop, Ty telekinetically knocks her lightsaber from Drewen's hand. Panicking, he asks why she did that, as the Rock Weavers are about to devour them. Ty responds that they won't, as one of the spiders helps her climb up. Drewen asks if Ty is controlling them, but Ty explains that she believes it's the Gretalax, as the spiders uncover the creature.

As he questions her certainty, Ty reclaims her lightsaber and asserts that no one else touches it, even if they believe they're saving her life. Drewen apologizes, and Ty says she'll forgive him this once. Adding that appearances can be deceiving, Ty kneels beside the Gretalax's head. Ty states that, like Drewen, she had assumed it was a mindless beast but should have known better. Drewen asks if she means it's sentient, and Ty replies that it might be, but it's difficult to determine. Ty admits she's never been adept at connecting with beasts, recalling the teachings of Jedi Master Cibaba. Nevertheless, she reaches out and establishes a connection, seeing Pela and realizing the process. Drewen asks what's happening, and Ty explains that the Gretalax accomplished what she couldn't and formed a bridge through the Force. When he asks if it's normal for it to use the Force, Ty says that her Master always said the Force was in all living things. Ty watches as the Rock Weavers approach the fallen Pela and is alarmed but quickly realizes there's no danger, observing as the spiders pick up the girl and carry her to the Gretalax, describing the scene to Drewen. The Segredo points out that the people of Wyke's Town labeled it a monster and claimed it went on a rampage, and Ty agrees, wondering why. Ty observes the Gretalax's attack, witnessing Pela deflect her uncle Layton Wyke's blaster rifle when he attempts to shoot the creature. Pela approaches the Gretalax, urging it to leave. Layton, angered by his niece's actions, shouts at her to get out of the way as he fires his weapon. The shot hits nearby rhydonium canisters, causing an explosion, but Pela still enters the cloud of toxic fumes to assist the Gretalax. Ty, recalling that Layton had blamed the creature for the gas instead of admitting his own fault, wonders why Pela is trying to help the creature despite her injuries. In the vision, Ty finds a cave and enters it. Drewen asks what she's seeing, and she says she's unsure. Venturing deeper, Ty discovers something that abruptly pulls her out of the vision as she exclaims "No!" Drewen asks what she learned, and Ty responds that she knows what the monster did, taking her lightsaber in hand. Activating the violet blade, Ty declares it will not stand.
