A unique species of enormous, winged beings existed on the world of Ovanis. During the Cold War period, a single egg belonging to this species was revered and carefully raised by the Crèche, a culture that held the belief that this egg contained a "savior yet to be born."

These Crèche beings presented as large humanoids characterized by sizable wings and radiant eyes. At a minimum, two members of this species were observed: one with light blue skin, white eyes, and white markings across its form, and another with dark skin, red eyes, and red markings. Both were capable of flight and carrying smaller lifeforms. The blue-skinned being seemed to consume other creatures. The black-skinned being had the capability to project a red energy beam from its mouth.
For many generations, members of the Crèche cult, residing on the planet Ovanis, venerated, safeguarded, and nurtured a massive, glowing blue egg suspended from the Cave of the Crèche's ceiling. They harbored the conviction that their "savior unborn" resided within the Crèche egg. In the aftermath of Operation: Sabre Strike, Resistance starfighter pilot Poe Dameron journeyed to the cave seeking information on the whereabouts of explorer Lor San Tekka, who was believed to possess knowledge of Luke Skywalker's location. First Order agent Terex gave chase and commanded his flametroopers to incinerate the egg as a means of intimidating both Poe and the Crèche.
Ultimately, the Crèche egg fractured, releasing a sizable blue winged being. Initially, the Crèche elder and her followers mistakenly identified the creature as their savior. However, it demonstrated hostility, attacking the Crèche and Terex's stormtroopers. The stormtroopers' blasters proved ineffective against its resilient hide. As the creature attempted to devour the Crèche elder, it was struck in the jaw by a black winged being with red eyes. A battle ensued between the two creatures. The stormtroopers' blaster fire only served to increase their size.
In the end, they breached the cave's roof, interrupting a dogfight between Poe's Black Squadron and Terex's TIE/fo space superiority fighters. The black winged creature eventually triumphed over the blue winged creature, unleashing a red beam from its mouth that resulted in the death of the latter. The black winged creature shimmered from the red beam it had expelled. Following the defeat of the First Order forces, the creature returned to the cave and knelt on a terrace. The grateful Crèche people regarded the creature as their savior and climbed upon its back. The Crèche followed the creature to their new home. Concurrently, Poe's Black Squadron departed and radioed for Terex's Maxima-A class heavy cruiser Ravenous to retrieve Terex and the remaining members of his squad.
The Crèche creatures were initially shown in the 2016 Marvel Comics edition Poe Dameron 3, penned by Charles Soule and artistically rendered by Phil Noto.
