Unidentified male New Republic agent

A male human who belonged to the male sex served as an operative within the New Republic's intelligence division. During the year 4 ABY, he received orders to proceed to the planet named Vernid. This mission arose after intelligence officers under the command of operative Caern Adan uncovered information pertaining to the former Imperial Major Soran Keize. This individual, accompanied by a female operative, intercepted Keize as he exited a festival situated in the settlement of Bakerstown. Their attempt to apprehend the former Imperial officer resulted in a violent confrontation, culminating in Keize fatally injuring both agents and subsequently escaping Vernid.

Biography

During the Galactic Civil War, a conflict between the New Republic and the Galactic Empire, this male individual functioned as an operative for the New Republic Intelligence. In the timeline of 4 ABY, another New Republic operative, Caern Adan, directed his team to investigate the background of Yrica Quell. She was a defector from the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing working directly under Adan. Subsequent investigations by the New Republic Intelligence revealed that Soran Keize, a major within the 204th, who Quell had reported as dead, had in reality deserted his post and assumed the alias "Devon Lhent." After tracking the former Imperial officer to the Outer Rim Territories planet Vernid, the male operative, along with a female accomplice, journeyed to the planet with the intention of taking Keize into custody.

The pair of operatives located Keize in the settlement of Bakerstown, where the local population was celebrating the Red Moon Festival. Initially, they approached Klevin, a crewmate working on Keize's dig-rig, compelling him to lead them to Keize, who was in the process of departing Bakerstown via a public speeder. The operatives, accompanied by Klevin, intercepted Keize along a network of bridges spanning the planet's muddy terrain. Klevin explained that the visitors wished to speak with him. The female operative verified "Lhent's" identity and disclosed her knowledge of his true identity, while the male operative requested his cooperation. Keize's request for them to leave was denied, and the female operative reached for her blaster after the ex-Imperial responded with what she felt was a baited line.

Keize then jumped off the bridge, and the two operatives opened fire as he took cover. The male operative descended to the opposite side of the bridge, only to be seized by Keize before he could regain his footing. The former Imperial redirected the operative's blaster towards his own chest. Disoriented by the mud and darkness, the operative inadvertently squeezed the trigger while his muscles were strained by Keize's grip, resulting in his accidental self-inflicted death. Keize swiftly eliminated the male operative's female accomplice, and Klevin offered to assist in concealing their deaths. However, Keize chose to flee Vernid, instructing Klevin to inform their overseer about the murders.

Keize would eventually rejoin the 204th and take command of the fighter wing. After discovering his leadership role in 5 ABY, Adan's task force, Alphabet Squadron, reviewed his past via the New Republic Intelligence's file on him. Captain Nath Tensent, a member of the squadron, recounted the intelligence report detailing Keize's time on Vernid, specifically mentioning the murders of the New Republic operatives.

Personality and traits

The operative was a human male who appeared young to Keize. When locating Keize in Bakerstown, he and his accomplice approached with urgency, leaving Keize's crewmate Klevin with no option but to guide them to him. Their expressions conveyed to Keize that they were not receptive to his offers. Upon Keize's attempt to escape, the operatives fired upon him. After being grappled to the ground by the ex-Imperial, the male operative became angered and strained his muscles while in grasp, maintaining his finger on the trigger. This resulted in his accidental demise as Keize had turned his blaster against him.

Equipment

The operative wore a common jacket, an unsuitable choice for his time on Vernid, as the rain had thoroughly soaked him.

Behind the scenes

The male operative made his debut in the 2019 novel Alphabet Squadron, the initial installment in Alexander Freed's Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy.
