Verzan

Verzan, a lifeless planet, was situated within the Cerberon system of the Deep Core. It functioned as a [garrison](/article/garrison] world for the Galactic Empire. However, the New Republic subjected it to a bombardment during their campaign to seize control of the system, resulting in widespread devastation of Verzan's surface.

In the wake of the New Republic's assault, Edineezious Winker, a pirate, founded Winker's amidst the ruins of Verzan. Numerous patrons of this establishment found themselves marooned on Verzan, lacking the necessary fuel or means to engage hyperspace travel. During the campaign, Chass na Chadic, a New Republic pilot, made a stop at Winker's for a drink, but she departed after two individuals attempted to swindle her out of her starfighter.

Description

Verzan, a rocky terrestrial planet, was too small to maintain an [atmosphere](/article/atmosphere]. Located on the outer edges of the Cerberon system within the Deep Core, Verzan orbited the [black hole](/article/black_hole] recognized as the Cerberon singularity. The gravitational force exerted by the Cerberon singularity dictated that Verzan's orbital path would eventually lead it into the black hole, thousands of years following the Imperial Era.

History

During its period of dominance, the Galactic Empire maintained control over the Cerberon system, utilizing Verzan as an Imperial [garrison](/article/garrison] world. Around 5 ABY, subsequent to the Empire's defeat in the Battle of Endor, the New Republic initiated a campaign to secure the Cerberon system, an operation spearheaded by General Hera Syndulla's battle group. Verzan became the initial target, enduring heavy fire from the Acclamator-class battleship Lodestar and the proton bombs deployed by Alphabet Squadron. The bombardment resulted in the widespread destruction of Verzan's surface.

Following the eradication of the Imperial presence on Verzan, the resourceful pirate Edineezious Winker promptly established an establishment known as Winker's within the ruins of the former garrison world. Chass na Chadic, a New Republic pilot and member of Alphabet Squadron, visited Winker's to have a drink, hoping to momentarily forget about the conclusion of her squadron's ongoing mission. While there, Chadic engaged in gambling with two other individuals, a Kel Dor and a Vurk. Having been stranded on Verzan for a considerable period, the two attempted to deceive Chadic and steal her B-wing starfighter, but Chadic was alert enough to recognize their scheme. When the pilot attempted to defend herself, the Vurk shoved Chadic into the crowd, but she was rescued by Gruyver, a member of the Children of the Empty Sun cult. Upon learning that her rescuer was a cultist, she punched him in the throat and left Verzan in her starfighter. Eventually, the New Republic successfully captured the remaining worlds within the Cerberon system, securing complete control.

Inhabitants

During the Galactic Empire's occupation of the Cerberon system, Verzan functioned as a garrison world. Following the bombardment and the establishment of Winker's, the population consisted of a permanent staff of two dozen, capable of accommodating over a hundred visitors. Many visitors found themselves stranded on Verzan due to insufficient [fuel](/article/fuel] and a lack of access to hyperspace travel.

Locations

In the aftermath of the New Republic's assault on Verzan, Winker's—a combined cantina, gambling den, trading post, and fuel stop—was constructed amidst the ruins. A magnetic field surrounded the establishment, which also featured a landing pad situated on a cracked-glass field.
