Zingo Gabnit

Zingo Gabnit, characterized by his blue skin, operated as a bounty hunter. Having cultivated a fierce image as an aggressive hunter, he was expelled from the Bounty Hunters' Guild for killing hunters who were pursuing rebels. This resulted in a bounty of 100,000 credits being placed on his head. Sometime between approximately 2 BBY and 4 ABY, Gabnit, along with his partner Turfitch, managed to secure some precious shards on the planet Carajam, situated in the Outer Rim Territories. He crossed paths with the bounty hunter Boba Fett, who initially disregarded him as he was returning from a different hunt. Later, Fett discovered the bounty on Gabnit and began to pursue him as Gabnit was arranging to leave the planet with his allies, the Xan sisters. While preparing to traverse the Death Plains to reach their ship, Gabnit fatally injured Turfitch in order to seize his water supply.

Fett located Turfitch, who revealed Gabnit's whereabouts, enabling Fett to shoot him from a distance. Gabnit survived and made his way to a village, where he murdered several residents to create a trap for Fett. Upon Fett's arrival, Gabnit attempted to persuade the bounty hunter to spare his life, promising a reward exceeding his bounty. Fett ignored the offer and entered the structure from which Gabnit's voice originated, which turned out to be a trap involving a comlink and a thermal detonator. Fett managed to escape the subsequent explosion and spotted Gabnit, subduing him after a brief struggle. Gabnit repeated his offer, asserting that the two hunters were alike in that they were the best in their field. Fett once again declined the offer, and when Gabnit made a final attempt to reach for his blaster, he was shot dead, with Fett dragging his corpse into a town to collect the reward.

Biography

Hunter on the run

Zingo Gabnit became wanted by the Galactic Empire.

Zingo Gabnit's profession was that of a bounty hunter, and he established himself as the most ruthless tracker in the Outer Rim Territories. He accepted any job, regardless of its unsavory nature, and considered himself an upright hunter, although the Bounty Hunters' Guild regarded him as somewhat of an outlaw. In one instance, Gabnit killed an individual wanted by the Galactic Empire, as the bounty notice stated that the target could be brought in dead or alive. However, the Empire declined to provide the reward, arguing that they needed the target alive.

According to Gabnit, the Bounty Hunters' Guild pledged to file an appeal, a solution that was too slow for Gabnit, who had debts to settle. He chose to act swiftly and ended up killing several Guild hunters who were pursuing members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, with whom the Empire was at war. Consequently, Gabnit was accused of collaborating with rebels, and the Guild placed a 100,000 credit price on his head. At some point, Gabnit became associated with the Xan sisters, a criminal enterprise.

Encountering Boba Fett

Between approximately 2 BBY and 4 ABY, Gabnit found himself on the Outer Rim planet Carajam, searching for valuable shards alongside his associate Turfitch and a human. After the human obtained the shards, they met with Gabnit and Turfitch in a desert camp, where Turfitch took possession of the shards. Gabnit prepared to kill the human, who pleaded for their life, insisting that they could have the shards. Gabnit reasoned that because the human knew his name, they could not be allowed to live, and when they promised that no one would find out, he voiced his agreement.

The human was about to continue begging when they noticed a figure approaching in the distance, whom Gabnit and Turfitch recognized as the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett. The human escaped, mocking the fate of the two criminals, while Gabnit drew his blaster. Turfitch advised Gabnit to flee, but Gabnit insisted on fighting, an option Turfitch considered absurd given Fett's reputation. To the astonishment of both men, Fett passed directly through the camp without noticing them, and when Gabnit saw the corpse of a rebel pilot on Fett's droid mount, he realized that they were not Fett's targets and were therefore safe, as Fett would not kill anyone without being paid.

In Fett's sights

Boba Fett took up the hunt for Zingo Gabnit.

Fett arrived in a town and accepted Gabnit's bounty, learning about it from a Guild agent who identified Gabnit as a rebel collaborator and a valuable target because he had murdered Guild agents. Gabnit planned to depart Carajam with the Xan sisters but was caught in a dust storm, seeking refuge in a cave as he was unable to proceed without a functioning speeder. He communicated with the Xan sisters via comlink, explaining that he would leave when possible and demanding that they have their starship fueled up. Gabnit heard footsteps approaching and fired a shot that missed the intruder, only to realize that it was Turfitch, who had gone into town to acquire gear grease.

Turfitch instead brought news that Fett had taken up Gabnit's bounty, reasoning that Fett might have lost their trail in the dust storm as they were both still alive. Gabnit was skeptical, knowing Fett's reputation, and he informed Turfitch that their plan was to cross the Death Plains desert and rendezvous with the Xan sisters to escape offworld. Turfitch believed the plan was insane since they lacked the water to complete the journey, a conclusion Gabnit agreed with by shooting Turfitch and claiming their canteen, leaving them to die.

Setting the trap

Gabnit survived his wounds from Boba Fett as he trekked through the Death Plains.

Turfitch was discovered by Fett, who was given Gabnit's trail in exchange for a promise to kill his former companion. Spotting Gabnit in the distance, Fett used his binoculars to pinpoint his location, and then fired a shot into Gabnit's right shoulder; Turfitch laughed in response until they died. Gabnit managed to continue walking until he reached a village, at which point he contacted the Xan sisters via comlink, beginning to threaten them until they responded. The sisters scolded Gabnit for having unfinished business, and he demanded that they honor their original agreement.

They declined his request, telling him to reach the planetside port at Danan Karr to preserve their deal and insisting that he deal with any remaining problems. Gabnit entered the village, where he was greeted by a Rodian who was shocked at his feat of surviving the Death Plains. He responded by fatally shooting the Rodian and began firing on the villagers, killing several and taking multiple others prisoner. Gabnit tied the survivors up outside and set a trap for Fett, placing a comlink next to a thermal detonator inside a building and waiting outside the village.

Showdown

Fett and Gabnit duel.

Fett arrived at nighttime, and when a villager begged for his help, he fired a shot into the air to attract Gabnit's attention. Gabnit projected his speech through the comlink, refuting the Guild's claims about him by explaining that the Empire had wronged him. He compared himself to Fett by stating that they were both among the best in their field and that they were above any other rules. He attempted to bribe Fett, asking him to walk away, at which point he would receive three times what the Guild had commissioned.

Gabnit also acknowledged that they could fight and that he would be sure to kill all the villagers in that case. After the villager begged Fett again, he ran into the building Gabnit's voice came from, and the hunter laughed as he saw Fett rush into his trap. The thermal detonator activated, engulfing the building, but Fett was able to escape with his jetpack. Gabnit fired at him from a hiding spot but was forced to take cover when Fett fired a missile. He continued firing at Fett until the hunter kicked him to the ground, knocking his blaster from his hands.

Death

Fett drags Gabnit's body into the desert.

Gabnit conceded defeat, offering the shards as a down payment for a truce and claiming that they were more valuable than his bounty. He stated that the Guild did not have to know of their arrangement and warned Fett that they would turn on him just as they had turned on Gabnit. He again claimed that he and Fett were the best, and as such they had to look out for each other; during his monologue, he reached for his blaster.

Fett kicked it further away, at which point Gabnit resigned to his fate and lunged for it, leading Fett to execute him. He dragged Gabnit's body through the village by the collar, where he was thanked by the villagers, who had escaped their bonds. Fett walked until he reached the town, dragging the corpse into a cantina, where it was taken by Guild representatives.

Personality and traits

Gabnit killed innocents in pursuit of his goals.

Zingo Gabnit held a high opinion of his abilities as a bounty hunter, and while initially adhering to Guild rules, he eventually considered himself above them. Gabnit was prepared to kill to advance his own interests, as evidenced by his killing of Guild hunters to settle his debts, betraying his own companion Turfitch to ensure his survival, and murdering villagers to protect himself from Fett. He also threatened to kill his human associate to conceal his actions on Carajam, as she knew his name.

Gabnit also displayed paranoia when he nearly shot Turfitch while hiding in a cave, not realizing his associate was the one approaching. He adopted an aggressive tone in his communications with the Xan sisters, calling them cowards while awaiting a response to his communications. In his confrontation with Fett, Gabnit made multiple disingenuous attempts to bargain for his life, offering three times his bounty while luring the other hunter into a trap, later offering the shards to Fett while reaching for his own blaster. Gabnit had blue skin, yellow eyes, gray horns, and pointed ears.

Skills and abilities

Gabnit demonstrated strategic thinking by luring Fett into a trap by placing a comlink near a thermal detonator. He used his blaster to engage in combat but was quickly defeated by Fett, who disarmed him. He was known as a cruel hunter and considered himself among the best in the profession.

Equipment

On Carajam, Gabnit wore a brown trenchcoat over a brown tunic, along with red shoulder guards, brown pants, and shoes. He wore gauze over his fingers, excluding his thumbs. He wore two belts with pouches for various items clipped on, which had two beaded braids attached. Gabnit also used goggles and a headscarf while traveling through the desert. He fought using an NN-14 blaster pistol that lacked a flash suppressing/stabilizing muzzle, while also carrying a knife.
