Trees were a type of plant found on many planets and moons throughout the galaxy. They could stablize soil, prevent erosion, filter pollution, and produce breathable air. Trees could not be seeded without ground. Some sentient species such as the Wookiees of the planet Kashyyyk and the Ewoks of the Forest Moon of Endor made their homes in and around trees. The subterranean caverns of Aleen housed a species of tree-like sentients, the Kindalo.
On Ahch-To, the birthplace of the Jedi Order and the location of the first Jedi Temple, a library existed inside of a uneti tree, containing Jedi knowledge.
Despite featuring a largely desolate desert landscape, the planet Tatooine featured trees around the time of the Imperial Era. However, trees were unimaginable to Luke Skywalker during his time on Tatooine, as the human had never seen them in the landscape of the world.
Wroshyr trees were of great importance in Wookiee culture. A saying in their native language of Shyriiwook was that "The trees are life," though this was only a rough translation.
It was possible for trees to be steeped in the dark side of the Force. Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus had encountered trees deep in the dark side at some point before 232 BBY.
One faction on the planet Bri'n revered and protected their trees. That faction had a Priestess of Wood to protect them. On the other end of the dispute was the Metal Clan, which hated and sought to destroy the trees.
