Burra fish

Burra fish, a fish species, were originally from the planet Dathomir. These fish were edible for both the Kiffar and Dathomirians, two distinct near-human groups. On the planet Batuu, certain families involved in fishing raised the non-native Burra fish as a food source.

During 19 BBY, while on Dathomir, the Dathomirian Asajj Ventress and the Kiffar Quinlan Vos consumed stew prepared with burra fish. Vos had caught the fish earlier that day. The Latero captain Greez Dritus frequently cooked burra fish aboard his starship, the Stinger Mantis, though he considered his cooking skills lacking. During the war between the First Order and the Resistance in 34 ABY, Oven-roasted Burra Fish was sold at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo located in Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. Between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, Burra Fish Caviar along with Tamarind-Glazed Burra Fish were available for purchase on the Halcyon, which was a MPO-1400 Purgill-class star cruiser belonging to Chandrila Star Line.

The slang phrase "to have bigger burra fish to fry" meant possessing more significant or interesting matters to handle or attend to. The expression "to be snared like burra in a trap" was used to describe someone being stuck, particularly in mud.

Behind the scenes

The burra fish made its initial appearance within the new Star Wars canon in the 2015 novel titled Dark Disciple, penned by Christie Golden. This species originated in Star Wars Legends continuity, initially appearing in the 1994 novel The Courtship of Princess Leia, authored by Dave Wolverton. The 2023 video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor featured closed captions that incorrectly spelled "burra" as "burrah."
