Chandrilan Squig

Chandrilan Squigs originated as a cocktail from the planet Chandrila located within the Core Worlds and associated with the Chandrilan culture. Back in 230 BBY, Amadeo Azzazzo, a Jedi Padawan, happened to pass by a restaurant on Coruscant, a planet in the Core Worlds, where they were serving these drinks along with the squig eels used in their preparation. Later, during the Imperial Era specifically in 5 BBY, Senator Mon Mothma, together with her husband Perrin Fertha, and their longtime friend Tay Kolma enjoyed Chandrilan Squigs at the Chandrilan Embassy situated on Coruscant.

Description

Coming from the planet Chandrila in the Core Worlds, Chandrilan Squigs were a type of Chandrilan cocktail. Before the addition of squigs—which were Chandrilan eels—the beverage had a clear color; however, once the squigs were added, the drink would fizz and turn a yellow shade. Humans found Chandrilan Squigs to be potable.

History

A restaurant on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant served Chandrilan Squigs during the High Republic Era. In 230 BBY, Amadeo Azzazzo, a Jedi Padawan, made sure to steer clear of the workers offering Chandrilan Squigs to those passing by as he walked past the restaurant.

Chandrilan Squigs were served in the Chandrilan Embassy on Coruscant.

By the time of the Imperial Era, Senator Mon Mothma, who was Chandrilan, and her daughter, Leida Mothma, were not fond of the drink, but Perrin Fertha, her husband, liked it. Chandrilan Squigs were served at the party the couple held in the Chandrilan Embassy on Coruscant in 5 BBY. Mothma, Fertha, and their old friend Tay Kolma all had the beverage, but Mothma chose not to include the worm-like creatures in hers. When Leida told her [mother](/article/gender] that the drinks were disgusting, Kolma replied that that was the whole point.

Behind the scenes

Chandrilan Squigs made from a recipe on StarWars.com

The first appearance of Chandrilan Squigs was in "Narkina 5," which is the eighth episode of the first season of Andor, the Disney+ television series, which was released on October 26, 2022. Although the episode only referred to them as squigs, the beverage was given its full name in a StarWars.com article about the drink written by Jenn Fujikawa that came out two days after the episode. The article also included a recipe from outside the universe of Star Wars for Chandrilan Squigs, which involved mixing mango juice, lemon-lime soda, and ice. To make the squigs, you would need raspberry gelatin powder, unflavored gelatin, boiling water, heavy whipping cream, and bendable plastic straws.
