Corellian Jedi

Referred to as Corellian Jedi, or Green Jedi during the Cold War, this exclusive group within the Jedi Order dedicated themselves to the Corellian sector. Distinguished by their unique traditions, the Corellian Jedi operated with considerable autonomy, maintaining a significant distance from the Jedi High Council, the Order's primary leadership. Prioritizing the welfare of Corellia above the interests of the Galactic Republic, the Corellian Jedi frequently found themselves in conflict with the more conventional members of the Order regarding strategic decisions and the allocation of their responsibilities.

History

Old Jedi Order

During the era of the Galactic Republic, the Jedi Order drew recruits from the planets of the Corellian sector, with a focus on Humans originating from Corellia itself. While these Force-sensitives adhered to the same standards as any other Jedi, a rift developed, prompting a substantial contingent of Corellian-born Jedi to return to their home planet. There, they established a heavily-defended sanctuary within Coronet City, which served as the central hub for their operations. Concentrating their missions solely within their native sector, the Corellian Jedi became renowned for their strong sense of patriotism and their distinctive green robes, a tribute to the historic Corellian flag. They also developed specific practices, such as the tradition of passing down Jedi Credits from master to apprentice, and to friends upon a Jedi's promotion. The Jedi High Council viewed these activities with deep suspicion, considering them to be borderline heretical.

Notably, they permitted marriages among their members, leading to the formation of enduring lineages and family lines, such as the prominent Halcyon family, celebrated for producing numerous influential Jedi Masters. Given that their families were not exclusively Force-sensitive, the Corellian Jedi cultivated close alliances with the Corellian Security Force, assisting in the apprehension of local criminals and smugglers. Within the criminal element, the Corellian Jedi were known for their reputation of an emotionless and unwavering dedication to duty, which often made them unapproachable and unfriendly.

As the Cold War engulfed the galaxy following the Great Galactic War between the Republic and the Sith Empire, the Corellian Jedi withdrew to Corellia, reinforcing their defenses within their academy, while the rest of the Order sought refuge on Tython to reorganize. When the Empire launched an invasion of the planet at the onset of the Galactic War, the Academy's Council augmented the system's defensive capabilities, successfully repelling the initial assault. Despite being credited with resisting the initial attack, the enclave was eventually overrun, resulting in the deaths of the Council and its leader, Master Arfan Ramos, effectively eliminating the threat posed by the Corellian Jedi.

By the time the New Sith Wars erupted, the Corellian Jedi had re-established their presence under the leadership of a Jedi Lord, operating with a level of independence that surpassed their previous status. As the High Council's efforts to thwart the expansion of the New Sith and prevent the destruction of the Republic faltered, the Corellian Jedi maintained control over their sector, successfully repelling all incursions by the Sith. Despite their isolationist policies, when the Jedi Grand Council issued a call for assistance, the Corellian Jedi Lords mobilized their forces, pledging their allegiance to Lord Hoth and the Army of Light. During a major campaign on Ruusan, Lord Berethon of Corellia led his vassals and the Corellian Jedi into battle against the Brotherhood of Darkness, emerging as the sole surviving Lord alongside Lord Valenthyne Farfalla. Despite their valiant contributions to the battle, the Corellian Jedi were not celebrated as heroes by the High Council, but rather dismissed as dissenters and heretics. Disillusioned by the political machinations of Coruscant, Berethon and his followers returned to Corellia, where they remained in near-total isolation for generations.

In the waning years of the Republic, some Corellian Jedi displayed a greater willingness to collaborate with the High Council. Notably, Master Thame Cerulian, a member of the Corellian Jedi, served on the High Council and was highly regarded for his wisdom within the broader Order. As the Separatist Crisis threatened to fracture the Republic, the Corellian Jedi invoked Contemplanys Hermi, a declaration of their belief that their primary loyalty lay with Corellia, rather than the Republic. Nevertheless, two dozen Jedi, including Nejaa Halcyon, reassessed the situation and chose to return to Coruscant, prioritizing their allegiance to the High Council over their devotion to Corellia. Ultimately, the Republic and the Order were dissolved, and the Galactic Empire rose to power, ushering in an era marked by a Great Jedi Purge. As the Empire relentlessly hunted down the Jedi, the Corellian Jedi were not spared from its reach and suffered widespread decimation.

Despite the Empire's efforts to eradicate all traces of the Order, a few Corellian Jedi managed to evade the initial purge, ensuring the continuation of their traditions through their children or apprentices. Although Nejaa Halcyon perished in the Clone Wars, his son, Valin Halcyon, lived to pass on a Jedi Credit to his son Corran Horn. When Master Luke Skywalker reestablished the Order, Horn made his way to the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4, where a preserved holocron contained numerous secrets that had been presumed lost. While the Yuuzhan Vong War impeded the Order's expansion, Horn successfully established a new enclave on Corellia by 40 ABY, allowing the training of Corellian Jedi to resume in full force.

While the First Corellian Insurrection in 18 ABY did not trigger a division within the Jedi Order, the repercussions of the Second Galactic Civil War on the Jedi were less well-defined. Several members of the Corellian government harbored suspicions towards the Jedi, although this sentiment was not universally shared, despite the fact that Grand Master Luke Skywalker and Master Horn both asserted that the Jedi were obligated to prioritize the Galactic Alliance over Corellia. The Corellian Jedi were relocated to a secure location in Coronet City, the capital of Corellia, although there was no indication that they would have faced arrest had they remained in the public eye.

Horn oversaw the training of at least five young Corellians as Jedi in Coronet, in addition to a number of non-Corellian Jedi and older Corellian Jedi natives. Despite his support for the Alliance, Skywalker refrained from assigning any Corellian Jedi to missions against Corellia, seeking to avoid placing them in a position where they would be considered criminals in their own homeland. While the non-native Corellian Jedi felt no reservations about serving the Alliance over Corellia, the native Corellian Jedi experienced considerable distress. Skywalker and Horn decided to relocate them off-world to a more neutral environment, even though they were aware that separating the Initiates from their families without prior consultation could have adverse consequences for both parties.
