Plot summary

The auction massacre

After being situated within a blue Cyban Front droid by Triple Zero and BT-1, Eternal Rur tauntingly questions Dr Chelli Lona Aphra and the assembled bidders regarding their desire to partake in the "incandescent glory of Immortal Rur." One of the Shadow University scholars assumes it's merely another demonstration, but Aphra urges her to take cover just as the automated gun emplacements commence firing upon the crowd, thereby saving her life. She informs the terrified scholars that the primary lesson is recognizing when to evade the line of fire.

The Ezaraa chieftain commands his subordinates to seize the Rur crystal from the possessed droid. Eternal Rur eliminates several Ezaraa with gunfire before shifting his focus toward Dr. Aphra and the scholars. Prior to escaping, she advises the scholars to understand when to flee. In the hallway, Dr. Aphra encounters the red droid leader of the Cyban Front, who inquires whether the weaponry possesses technopathic controls. Dr. Aphra deduces that Eternal Rur lacks technopathy, and that Triple Zero is actually manipulating the guns.

Triple Zero's leverage

Upon Dr. Aphra contacting him in a fit of rage, Triple Zero retorts that he and BT-1 are preoccupied with relishing the ensuing pandemonium. He informs her that they've configured the guns for autotargeting and have positioned the Rur crystal within the droid she had repaired. Triple Zero remains unconcerned about the resulting carnage. Aphra demands he deactivate the guns, but Triple Zero discloses that they've disabled the gun controls using a fire and axe. When Dr. Aphra presses him to reveal his demands, he instructs her to meet them in her quarters.

Dr. Aphra strikes her head in frustration as a wounded Ezaraa, having lost an arm, collapses to the floor. When the Cyban Front leader questions whether Aphra had incorporated a destruction failsafe into the reanimated chassis of his comrade, she denies having done so. The Cyban Front leader departs, while Dr. Aphra proceeds back to her room. However, her path is obstructed by the rampaging Eternal Rur and the gun turrets. Dr. Aphra resolves to seek an alternative route.

Observing through the surveillance camera, Triple Zero remarks to BT-1 that Dr. Aphra has made the "correct" decision. He advises BT-1 to savor their brief existence while they have the opportunity. Triple Zero revels in the massacre displayed on the security camera feed. Back in the main hall, Yonak of the Son-tuul Pride manages to evade the rampaging Eternal Rur by escaping through a succession of blast doors. He comes across the Hutt Sutha and his Twi'lek entourage. Sutha and Yonak forge an alliance to collectively subdue Eternal Rur and seize the Rur crystal.

Dr. Aphra finds herself cornered by Krrsantan, who seizes her by the collar of her jacket. Aware of the Wookiee's "life debt" to the Xonti Brothers, Dr. Aphra grants Black Krrsantan access to the armory, which is replete with ammunition. Upon discovering ion weaponry, Dr. Aphra contacts the various factions via comlink and informs them that there is ion weaponry available in Residential Storage B-4, which they can employ against Eternal Rur.

Escaping Eternal Rur

However, Dr. Aphra's actions reveal her location to Eternal Rur, who subsequently tracks her down. Dr. Aphra attempts to neutralize him with an ion blaster, but the droid hurls her to the ground. Eternal Rur seeks retribution against Dr. Aphra for attempting to sell him. Believing her demise is imminent, Dr. Aphra comments that she does not anticipate positive outcomes for herself. However, Triple Zero repels Eternal Rur with the blasters, as he still requires the rogue archaeologist to remain alive.

As the massacre unfolds, an Imperial Star Destroyer approaches the Sorca Retreat. Just as Dr. Aphra arrives inside her room, Triple Zero directs her attention to the monitors, indicating that he has prepared a "delightful surprise." Dr. Aphra watches in dismay as Darth Vader and his stormtroopers forcefully board the resort space station. Triple Zero suggests they commence negotiations.
